Charles Kelley of Lady A praises Russell Dickerson for using his fame to grant a courageous young fan with an unexpected gift.
Kelley retweeted Russell’s post. He writes “it’s inspirational moments like this that make being a songwriter feel so fulfilling and rewarding.”
While looking through his Instagram feed, he saw a young girl named Sarah lying in a hospital bed while performing a dance to her favorite song “Home Sweet.” Charles Kelley plays a part in writing the song, along with Dickerson and Casey Brown.
“I had to repost! Sarah was hit head on by a drunk driver earlier this year and has made a BRAVE, INCREDIBLE recovery,” posted Russell. “You’re crushing it girl! I hope we can meet in person someday and do this dance together!”
The accident resulted in the loss of her legs. However, she never lost her positive attitude and bright spirit.
“A story like Sarah’s needs to be shared & celebrated,” Dickerson wrote. “She is amazing & has inspired me so much this year.”
Dickerson met with Sarah and her mother to announce they would be receiving a 2021 Chevy Traverse, which had been fully updated for wheelchair access and other handicap amenities Sarah needs.
“With our friends at @Chevrolet, we got the chance to surprise Sarah & donated a new #ChevyTraverse up-fitted by @BraunAbility for her mobility needs,” says Dickerson.
The Instagram page @strong.like.sarah explains Sarah is a cheerleader at her high school. The cheer team had choreographed a dance to Sarah’s favorite song. She surprised the team by learning the dance and performing it from her hospital bed.
“Means so much to hear this song is keeping your spirits so high, Sarah. Proud to have written a meaningful one with ya,” Kelley ended his caption.
