“Last Man Standing” took viewers into the past with its latest episode. The show revealed how Mandy welcomed her first child during the pandemic.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, “Last Man Standing” saw a time jump at the beginning of its ninth season. Rather than ignore the real-world issue, the show jumped three years into the future after the pandemic had ended. Along with the time jump, “Last Man Standing” introduced a few changes and a few new additions to the Baxter clan.
Kristin and her husband Ryan welcomed their second child. And Mandy and Kyle had their first child, a daughter named Sarah. In the latest episode “Midwife Crisis,” the show flashed back to Sarah’s birth. And the results were more than a little heartwarming.
‘Last Man Standing’ Flashes Back to the Pandemic
Due to the pandemic, Mandy and Kyle couldn’t get an extended stay at the hospital. Instead, they opted to have a home birth. Much to Tim Allen’s Mike Baxter’s surprise, Mandy wanted to have the baby at their house. Meanwhile, her sister Kristin decided to help with the birth by finding a midwife. Mandy also picked Kristin to be in the room with her over her parents.
Both Mandy’s choice of birthing venue and optional person caused discord in the family. Mike Baxter didn’t like the idea of Mandy giving birth in his house. Meanwhile, his wife Vanessa wanted to be in the room when Mandy gave birth. She felt a bit helpless that she couldn’t be there for her daughter. But Vanessa realized Kristin was a great choice and would protect her sister when she overheard Kristin arguing with the midwife about what music Mandy wants to listen to when giving birth.
Ultimately, the episode ended up being a story that Mike Baxter was telling his daughter Mandy. Mandy wanted her daughter Sarah to stop playing with Kristin’s daughter Evelyn. Mandy thought Evelyn was being bossy and controlling. But Mike pointed out that Evelyn was being protective in a similar way that Kristin was protective of Mandy.
Both sisters reconciled and settled their differences over playtime. Mandy agreed to allow the children to play together. “Last Man Standing” is currently airing its ninth and final seasons, bringing the story of the Baxter family to a close. Fans still have several more episodes of Baxter antics and even sibling rivalry to look forward to over the next few weeks.
