‘Last Man Standing’ Misses Out on Emmy Nomination, Leaving Tim Allen Fans Disappointed

by Jennifer Shea

“Last Man Standing” fans cannot be happy with the Television Academy.

The administrator of the Emmy Awards only nominated “Last Man Standing” for one Emmy this year. And it wasn’t for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series or Best Comedy Series. That is a major letdown for fans of the show, which ended its nine-season run this spring.

Star Tim Allen has received nominations for a Golden Globe and a Primetime Emmy previously for his work on “Home Improvement.” But for his work on “Last Man Standing,” he has yet to receive a nod from the Academy. And the show overall has not been recognized, either.

‘Last Man Standing’ Only Nets One Emmy Nomination

“Last Man Standing” got one Emmy nomination this year, for Outstanding Cinematography for a Multi-Camera Series.

However, it was not among the contenders for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series or Best Comedy Series. The nominees for the former are Anthony Anderson (“Black-ish”), Michael Douglas (“The Kominsky Method”), William H. Macy (“Shameless”), Jason Sudeikis (“Ted Lasso”) and Kenan Thompson (“Kenan”). The nominees for the latter are “Ted Lasso,” “Emily in Paris,” “Cobra Kai,” “Black-ish,” “Hacks,” “The Flight Attendant” and “Pen15.”

Allen’s show has received a total of four Primetime Emmy Award nominations over the years, for Outstanding Cinematography (2014 and 2021) and for Outstanding Multi-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series (2016 and 2017).

Fans Have Speculated About Past Snubs

Fans of the show can’t be happy about the dearth of Emmy nominations for “Last Man Standing” this year. But they have complained about it in years past to no avail.

“If there was any justice at the Emmys Tim Allen would have 3 or 4 Emmys from Last Man Standing,” one Twitter user posted in 2019. “But, he’s trending as all the Leftists mention his past problem w/ drugs as if HW doesn’t run on that crap.”

“I saw people are pissed Last Man Standing didn’t get an Emmy so people are pissed saying he didn’t get one because he’s conservative,” another Twitter user observed.

“2020 will be the year of last man standing emmy win,” another fan suggested hopefully last year.

Alas, another year, another snub. At least “Last Man Standing” wasn’t completely shut out of the awards nominations this year. And Allen and his crew will always have their memories from the show, which may be the best prize of all.
