Despite the show nearing its finale, Last Man Standing saw the lowest ratings of the series Thursday night as it faced off against the NFL Draft.
Only about 2.1 million people tuned in for last night’s episode titled “Love and Negotiation,” TV Line reported. That was even after Tim Allen hyped the episode on his social media ahead of the broadcast.
According to Allen, viewers don’t want to miss this episode. The actor shared an image of his character Mike Baxter and actor Héctor Elizondo’s Ed. Recent promotional photos have also shown off the two characters interacting. Their friendship may be the focus of the episode as Last Man Standing final season wraps to a close on May 20th. Only four episodes of the show remain.
Last Man Standing wasn’t the only show to see its ratings roll back Thursday. The NFL Draft, with Clemson’s quarterback Trevor Lawrence going No. 1, dwarfed all prime-time shows. NBC’s Manifest also saw a series low rating.
Allen: It’s Been Hard to Leave ‘Last Man Standing’
In the weeks leading up to the finale, Tim Allen has gotten sentimental about his time on the show. He continues to post photos to his social media as the cast wraps shooting at different locations and different actors say their goodbyes.
For Allen, it’s been tough to say goodbye to the show. The actor is proud of what they accomplished while missing the Baxter family.
“I’ve been one lucky dude to have been part of ‘Last Man Standing,’” Allen said last October. “I so appreciate the incredible support from our fans over this near-decade of work. As we approach the ninth season, I just admire and feel grateful for all the hard work our wonderful cast and crew have done. We had all considered to end the show after last season, but together with Fox, we decided to add a year so we could produce a full season to create a gentle and fun goodbye. I’m looking forward to a memorable and hilarious final season.”
Fortunately, the Baxter family will be riding off into the sunset together. Kaitlyn Dever, who left as a series regular after the sixth season, is returning to Last Man Standing for the finale. She plays Eve Baxter, and the character is currently studying at the U.S. Air Force Academy in the show.
Allen’s second show, Assembly Required, which paired him with his Home Improvement co-star Richard Karn, is also ending its first season. The finale aired on April 27th, and it’s unclear if History Channel plans to renew the show for a second season.
