‘Last Man Standing’ Season 9 Premiere: How, When, Where to Watch

Tim Allen’s Last Man Standing will premiere its ninth and final season tonight. Get all the details here.

After eight successful seasons, the mega-hit series will begin its final season at 9:30/8:30c tonight. During a teaser video for the show, Tim Allen reveals that the season will take place in 2023. Producers say they wanted to avoid having to deal with the coronavirus pandemic and awful events of 2020.

“People are depressed enough without having to look for us to be depressed,” says executive producer Kevin Abbott. “[The time jump] allowed us to tell stories from a positive point of view while addressing the impact [the pandemic has had] on our characters. They all change in a way.”

Tim Allen Says He Already Misses Last Man Standing

Now 67-years-old, Allen says filming the final season has been bittersweet for the whole cast. While everyone is grateful for their experiences, they are sad that their onscreen family will be parting ways.

“What I miss already is, I love this environment,” says Allen during a promo video for the final season. “It’ll be a long time before I forget about that.”

Co-star, Nancy Travis, agrees with Allen. She says that Last Man Standing has been one of her favorite career moments.

“I will take away the memory of having one of the best acting experiences of my life,” says Travis.

Allen concludes, “We’ve done a lot of work. But when you love what you do, it’s not a lot of work.”

The teaser video even hints at a Home Improvement crossover episode. During the episode, Allen’s character, Mike Baxter , hilariously meets Allen’s character, Tim Taylor, from Home Improvement. Allen says that playing both characters for the same episode was “confusing.”

“It was really confusing for me to play Tim Taylor, who, I think of Mike Baxter is an evolution of that character. He’s smarter, went to college,” says Allen. “We don’t know whether Tim Taylor was really stupid or really smart. I mean, I played the guy I wasn’t sure.”

What we don’t want to be confusing is the details for tonight’s premiere. Tune in to Fox TV tonight at 9:30/8:30c to catch the first of the final 21 episodes.
