‘Last Man Standing’: Tim Allen’s ‘Mike Baxter’ Butts Heads with On-Screen Wife Nancy Travis

by Josh Lanier

Mike and Vanessa Baxter are feuding in tonight’s episode of Last Man Standing. In a preview, the couple is at odds over their vacation as Mike struggles to keep his store afloat financially.

The Baxters, played by Tim Allen and Nancy Travis, are struggling to deal with the fallout from the Coronavirus pandemic. While the show jumped ahead three years to avoid dealing with COVID-19 head-on, Last Man Standing is still wrestling with its aftermath in the show’s final season.

Vanessa believes it’s time they take their dream vacation to Peru. It’s something they spoke about often during the pandemic, apparently. But Mike is worried his store isn’t going to survive in the new “sales landscape” created by the virus.

Last Man Standing airs on Thursday at 9:30 pm EST on FOX. The show is in it’s ninth and final season.

‘Last Man Standing’ Cast Reflect on Shooting Final Season

Cast members of Last Man Standing said filming the final episodes of the show was incredibly difficult. After nine seasons together, they were all very close.

Tim Allen said he felt “horrible” going to set every day knowing that the end of production was inching closer.

“I thought it would be a good idea,” Allen told Fox News. “It was a terrible idea!”

Nancy Travis said she also felt the sense of dread creeping in with each passing day.

“I feel like because we show up to work going ahhhhh (“crying”) I can’t…” Travis told Fox News.

The show has been in production since 2011. It began on ABC before it was canceled after six seasons. FOX picked up the show after that and gave fans three more. After nine seasons, the Last Man Standing only has three episodes remaining. Something Allen is struggling to handle.

“I love doing this show and getting real sad as we get to the…whew… the final three…,” he tweeted Wednesday, including a picture of his character.

This isn’t the first time Allen has had to say goodbye to a fan-favorite character. His massively successful show Home Improvement in the 1990s ended after nine seasons. He said it was difficult to let that character go. He actually brought back Tim Taylor earlier this year for a crossover episode on Last Man Standing.

Allen currently hosts the reality competition show Assembly Required with Richard Karn, another Home Improvement alum, on History Channel.
