For the past few months, Hargitay and Meloni have been exchanging these whispering videos with each other on Instagram. Meloni started off the trend, posting a video featuring mostly his forehead and eyes as he whispers a message to his friend “Marsha.” Hargitay responds with a similarly silly message.
Earlier today, Meloni continued the exchange by posting a new video. This time, he’s at an outdoor gathering with a lot of people. We see some covered picnic tables behind him as well as a camera crew.
“Marsha, what’s up? I’m at a big barbecue. Miss ya,” the “Law & Order” star says in the video. “Try the corn dogs. They’re fantastic. Gotta go.”
Hargitay hasn’t had time to respond yet, but we know she’s busy filming Season 23 of “Law & Order: SVU.” Meloni and Hargitay starred together on the show for 12 years, before Meloni left due to a contractual issue. The two’s characters, Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler, established a deep relationship on the show that never quite turned romantic. For years, fans hoped to see the two characters get together. But their dreams were crushed when Meloni left the show for good.
Now, he’s back with his own spin-off series. And when his character Stabler showed up in a crossover episode of “SVU” last spring, fans became hopeful that they might see their favorite almost-relationship develop on screen.
‘Law & Order: SVU’ Stars Mariska Hargitay and Chris Meloni Tease Potential Relationship Between Benson and Stabler
Hargitay and Meloni only famed the flames of the fandom when they posted some teasing, totally steamy photos together. Meloni hit fans first with an almost-kiss pic captioned, “#rehearsing.”
Then, Hargitay followed it up with the two sharing a close embrace, Meloni’s arm around Hargitay’s neck, and his face tucked into her shoulder. She captioned it with a series of hashtags, including, “#SetLife #SetLove #23Years #PFL #It’sAllHappeningBaby #WhatsInTheLetter #BTS #PeacefulEasyFeeling.”
We have several questions about what all that could mean. Especially this mysterious letter. But what really set fans into a frenzy was NBC’s comment on the post. Their official Instagram account later wrote, “Bensler stans, it’s our time to shine.”
For those who don’t know, “Bensler” is the mashed-up name of Benson and Stabler. It represents their (potential) romantic relationship.
So, did NBC just confirm that they could get together? Even if they’re not on the same show? We know the two have been filming together, but just how many cross-over episodes of “Law & Order” will we see? Time will tell, Outsiders.
