Season 2 of Law & Order: Organized Crime has nearly arrived and the teasers and previews are giving us new information every day.
The return of Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) for the Law & Order franchise’s new show propelled it to Season 1 success. However, Dylan McDermott as Richard Wheatley also thrilled fans in his role. Wheatley’s involvement in the mafia made him an instant villain, and McDermott delivered a chilling performance.
In Season 2, the two adversaries are back. However, Wheatley’s not doing so hot. While Stabler continues to investigate the men further up the totem pole, Wheatley is still in jail and in trial.
New photos released by TVInsider show all different kinds of developments. Besides looks at mafia members Albi Briscu and Reggie Bogdani, we’re also seeing a look at Stabler’s home life. Of course, there is also Wheatley, who is scene exiting a jail cell and attending a trial.
While Wheatley is obviously not in a good spot, any fan knows that this isn’t justice yet. The conniving, intelligent businessman will no doubt have a fierce defense in court, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see him get away clean. Considering Wheatley is delivering the same confident and cold look throughout the photos, it almost seems more likely that he’s not out of the game.
Law & Order: Organized Crime Star Dylan McDermott Playing Foil
This is not a knock on Dylan McDermott: the man looks like a villain. A striking appearance with firm facial features always makes for a distinct look, and the actor’s voice and overall demeanor was made for Law & Order: Organized Crime.
It’s also clear in McDermott’s past comments that he thrives in the role. As John Jamison wrote for Outsider previously, McDermott says his role is something the show needs.
“Stabler definitely needs a foe, a formidable foe. Otherwise, the show wouldn’t work. Because that kind of conflict, that standoff is so necessary on a show like this. So, you have to have somebody who can take him on, and I think that Richard can take on Stabler. In fact, he looks forward to it. That’s what turns him on. You know what I mean? He’s one of these criminals that like to leave a note to let you know he was there,” McDermott said to TVLine.
Christopher Meloni agrees. In an interview with Deadline, the actor opened up about what’s coming in Season 2. Sharing a similar excitement, the man behind Elliot Stabler teases how they’re battle isn’t finished yet.
Of course, Meloni says Stabler will come out on top.
“We have an altercation or two, or an interaction or two. You know, our courses must intersect. I think [Wheatley’s] going to get the short end of that deal. A lot of things get answered, but then a couple other big questions arise, so there’s going to be a continuing saga, I believe,” Meloni said.
