Dylan McDermott plays a great bad guy. Fans of “Law & Order: Organized Crime” will recognize him as Richard Wheatley, the villain opposite Christopher Meloni’s Elliot Stabler in Season 1 of the new show.

But McDermott is an accomplished actor beyond the Dick Wolf-produced franchise, and he recently took to Instagram to celebrate his last 10 years in the industry.

Since his first acting credit in 1987, the “Law & Order: Organized Crime” star has been busy. Over the last decade, he has appeared in more than 20 different television and movie titles.

The Instagram post features a collection of photographs from roles McDermott has played over the last 10 years. And the list is pretty impressive.

Many will recognize him from his role as the traitorous former-Secret Service agent Forbes in the 2013 action flick “Olympus Has Fallen.” He also played roles in the 2012 Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis comedy “The Campaign” and 2012 drama “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.”

The last few years have seen the “Law & Order: Organized Crime” star transition from movies to TV. In 2018, he played Captain Dave in “LA to Vegas.” Then, he appeared in “No Activity” and “Hollywood.” And from 2011 to 2019, he was featured in more than 20 episodes of “American Horror Story.”

It’s been a busy 10 years for the Richard Wheatley actor. And they are certainly deserving of an honorary Instagram post.

The ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ Star Has Real Life Experience with Mobsters

It turns out that the “Law & Order: Organized Crime” star has some real-life experience with the types of guys he plays in the show. Of course, Richard Wheatley has distanced himself from the traditional world of the mafia. But he is still the epitome of organized crime.

When Dylan McDermott was a bartender in New York, mob guys used to come in and keep him from closing down the bar. He talked about the experience in an April 2021 interview with Variety.

“Well, you know, it would be closing time and a couple of guys would come in and I’d be like, ‘Oh guys, sorry, we’re closing up.’ And they’d be like, ‘No, you’re not.’  And I was like, ‘Okay. Sure. Whatever you want.’ I would have to wait till they were done, and I’d bulls**t with them a little bit…” McDermott said.

Another New ‘Law & Order’ Show is On the Way

That’s right, “Law & Order: Organized Crime” fans. Not only is the Christopher Meloni-led show coming back for Season 2, but there is also an entirely new show on the horizon.

“Law & Order: For the Defense” is the latest spinoff from Dick Wolf.

“This new show is exciting for me personally. We spent the last 30 years on shows that played offense. Now it will be great to play defense, and being able to do it with Carol is an honor and an opportunity for both of us to do television that hasn’t been done before,” Dick Wolf told Deadline.
