NBC recruited the cast of “Law & Order: SVU” to promote the Tokyo Olympics, which are streaming on the network’s cable channels.
In a new video posted to their official social media sites, the “Law & Order” cast encouraged viewers to check out the Olympics and support Team USA by watching on NBC. The network crossover promotion makes sense, considering “Law & Order’s” Twitter page has nearly one million followers and their Instagram page has nearly 700k.
The video opens up with actress Kelli Giddish, who plays Amanda Rollins on the show. She begins saying, “Let the games–” before the video abruptly cuts to Peter Scanavino. The actor for Dominick Carisisi mimics Giddish and starts saying, “Let the games–” before he too is cut off. Enter Jamie Gray Hyder, who plays Katriona Tamin, finally finishing the whole phrase. “Let the games begin.”
The promo cuts to several jump cuts of different Olympic athletes’ faces. Then Ice T, actor for Odafin “Fin” Tutola, finishes off the video by repeating the whole phrase, “Let the games begin.” Cue more jump cuts of Team USA members in their respective sports. The video closes with a shot of a stadium giving off fireworks, followed by the words “The Olympics, Watch Now.”
The “Law & Order” Twitter page captioned the post, “Talk about an elite squad. Tune in to the #TokyoOlympics NOW on @nbc. #WatchWithUS.”
“Law & Order: SVU” fans will notice one familiar face that’s clearly missing. Actress Mariska Hargitay, who plays the show’s lead Olivia Benson, doesn’t make an appearance in the promo. Fans theorize that Hargitay is taking it easy at home while recovering from a few leg injuries.
How Did ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Star Mariska Hargitay Hurt Herself?
Earlier this year, the “Law & Order” actress broke her knee, tore a ligament, and got a hairline fracture in her ankle, according to CinemaBlend. This all happened in May, around the time Season 22 of “Law & Order” wrapped up. Cut to earlier this month, when Hargitay attended the “Black Widow” premiere and once again hurt herself.
CinemaBlend reports that Hargitay agreed to host an after-party following the movie. She rushed out of the theater to hurry home before her guests only to slip and fall in the rain. According to Page Six, this caused Hargitay to break her ankle on the same leg where she broke her knee earlier. Yikes.
So, it’s safe to say that Hargitay is spending a lot of time getting bed rest and recovering from her summer of misfortune. She’s taken to Instagram to catalog the progression of her healing, recently posting about moving from a cast to a boot.
She also invested in a shirt that says, “It Hurt, Thank You For Asking.” Sounds like Hargitay is tired of people constantly asking the same questions.
