When they starred together on “SVU” for 12 years, Meloni and Hargitay portrayed one of the most iconic almost-couples on television. Detectives Elliott Stabler and Olivia Benson constantly flirted the line between “professional” partners and “romantic” partners. But they never took that leap, and for 10 years, Meloni’s Elliott Stabler stayed away from the “SVU” unit.
Until now. This past year, Meloni appeared as Stabler once again in his own spin-off show, “Law & Order: Organized Crime.” He also appeared on a few cross-over episodes with Hargitay for “SVU”. The two reunited for the first time in 10 years, and now, it looks like that won’t be their last meet-up.
Both stars are currently filming their respective shows. From the looks of it, another crossover episode is in the works, so Meloni and Hargitay are spending ~a lot~ of time together on set. And whenever there’s a break in filming, the two like to get up to no good. Namely, by sending the “Law & Order” fandom into a frenzy.
One of the show’s fans, Maria, tweeted an innocent message this morning about one of her favorite TV couples.
“Can y’all imagine if one day @Chris_Meloni and @Mariska posts a picture like this pretending they are kissing with the caption #Rehearsing It would be the end of us and the end of the internet,” Maria wrote. She posted a photo of Meloni and Hargitay smooching on set, in what looks like a sneaky photo.
Not even an hour later, Chris Meloni hopped on Twitter with the ultimate response. Maria asked, and Meloni delivered.
“Law & Order: SVU” Stars Tease Fans With Incredible Almost-Kiss Pic
Meloni broke down each step of Maria’s request and made it happen.
One: Post a pic of him and Mariska Hargitay being intimate. Two: Pretend to be kissing. Three: Caption it #rehearsing. Four: Completely upend the “Law & Order” fandom.
Fans flipped out over the pic. While several people recognized that it was a gag, others remain hopeful that it could manifest into something real on the show.
“Did he take this photo because of that tweet, or has he had this photo for a few days? I really need an answer,” Twitter user Julie said.
Jen Edwards quote tweeted the post and said, “Hear that? That’s the collective ‘THUMP’ of phones worldwide being dropped…”
“THIS is so much of why we wanted them back. It’s not just about the destination, it’s about the journey, the teasing, the spiraling,” another fan wrote.
Sept. 23 can’t come fast enough for most fans. Several expressed how the pic “killed them” and how they don’t know how to go about their day knowing that this pic ~could~ be real. The two stars better be careful though, as this fan said: “Meloni needs to stop trying to kill us or there’s not gonna be anyone left to watch the show.”
