Law & Order: SVU fans rejoice: your favorite actors actually like each other. Truly, every fan wants their favorite actors to like each other in real life. That’s the dream: you watch this cast of characters interact every week; watch their characters evolve and grow into something more than themselves; you want to believe the actors can actually tolerate each other during filming.
It’s heartbreaking to learn when actors aren’t one another’s biggest fans, such as a 2016 incident with Pauley Perrette and Mark Harmon on NCIS culminating in their characters never filming together again. Not so with Law & Order: SVU; according to a Reddit post by an extra on SVU, the actors have “become a family with the crew.”
Needless to say, actors and crew who treat each other like family in such an honest way helps to pull viewers further into the narrative. While it’s important to separate the art from the artist, knowing your favorite actors care about each other after working together for 22 years is like the cherry on top of being a fan.
‘Law & Order: SVU’ Sets are ‘Chill’ Despite Gruesome Material
The extra attributes the “chill” atmosphere of the sets “despite the material” to the shortened working days; “8-10 hours including lunch helps. You work 15+ hours everyday like other sets and you wear out quickly.”
They also comment about the care and workmanship that goes into every set, writing, “Being here…gives a small sense of wonder, especially with all the artistry that went into building these sets that oftentimes doesn’t get picked up on camera.”
Additionally, a commenter asked the extra if any of the actors were rude; the extra replied, “Nah not really. First off they aren’t rude, any of them.” They go on to describe Ice-T’s working attitude, writing, “The only thing I could say is Ice is quiet. Does his job, shares a few laughs but stays in work mode.”
Mariska Hargitay’s Special Ankle Unit
In an Instagram post on July 6, Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay revealed she’d broken her ankle in a fall. She tagged the post with #specialankleunit, among other quips. She spoke to People about her injury. Hargitay said, “I am getting better every day and very excited to go back to work and keep the streets of New York City safe.”
In the recent Reddit post, the SVU extra shared a story from set of Hargitay “pretending she was driving a car and honking at people while being pushed to set in her wheelchair.” A commenter asked if Hargitay was using crutches or wearing a boot on her broken ankle in the new season; according to Hello!, the injury will be addressed in the season 23 premiere on September 23.
