“Lights, legend, action,” read the recent “Law and Order” Instagram post featuring star Ice-T giving his trademark serious expression.

In the Thursday morning post, the intense actor who has portrayed Detective Odafin Tutuola on the hit “Law and Order” series, “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” takes a moment to call “action” while filming season 23.

A Sergeant for the Special Victims Unit, “Fin” Tutuola is SVU Captain Olivia Benson’s second in command.

Tutuola came to the department after serving as a narcotics detective for many years. His first appearance was in the season premiere of the long-running prime-time drama.

“Special Victims Unit” is one of the franchise’s most popular shows.

The hit NBC series was the first spin-off of the original “Law and Order” series. Premiering in 1999, the show features Mariska Hargitay as Captain Olivia Benson.

“Fin” Tutuola became partners with John Munch (Richard Belzer) since Tutoula joined the series in season two.

Munch came to the series from the “Law and Order” related series, “Homicide: Life on the Streets.”

Initially, the two partners experienced some friction due to their vastly different backgrounds.  However, over the years, the two have grown to become dedicated partners.

Eventually, Detective John Much is promoted to Sergeant. Due to this, the partnership between the two officers dissolves, but the friendship remains.

Fin is later paired with Detective Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish.)

The Franchise Continues to Grow

Last year, the newest addition to the popular franchise, “Law and Order: Organized Crime,” was introduced.

The show features one of “SVU’s” original stars, Christopher Meloni as he reprises his role of Elliot Stabler on the prime-time series. This addition was a welcome one, as fans have been waiting for the detective’s return since his unexpected departure from the Special Victims Unit at the end of season 12.

Fans are eager to see what comes of this character’s return in the coming seasons. While Meloni may be heading his own series, there are plenty of clues to suggest he and his former partner, Olivia Benson (Hargitay) may have some unresolved business.

The pair found themselves reconnecting during a “Law and Order” cross over event earlier this year. In the episode, the former partners find themselves on the case together after Stabler faces a traumatic loss.

Season 23 of “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” and the second season of “Organized Crime” are slated to premiere in the fall of 2021.
