Law & Order: SVU is back filming in New York. Olivia Benson actress Mariska Hargitay looks radiant in a brand new behind-the-scenes pic. Hargitay has been on Law & Order: SVU since it premiered in 1999. Despite a leg injury earlier this year, nothing seems to be slowing her down.

The actress has been posting some fun photos from set, but the new photo is one from People of Hargitay smiling behind the scenes. Law & Order: SVU is now entering its 23rd season, and there should be plenty of action for the SVU team this year.

One of the top things fans are excited about is the fact that Christopher Meloni will probably return to the show as Elliot Stabler in future Crossover events with Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime. Hargitay has posted multiple photos with Meloni recently, stirring up plenty of excitement.

Chris Meloni Left ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Following a Contract Dispute

Elliot Stabler actor Christopher Meloni left Law & Order: SVU following a contract dispute with NBC. He was on the show for over a decade. This left Mariska Hargitay to star in the series. Fans were crushed when Elliot Stabler left, but now, Christopher Meloni is back with Law & Order: Organized Crime.

Not only were fans crushed, but his exit was also hard for Mariska Hargitay. But the show must go on, and it did with a big new cast in season 13. At first, it felt like a very new show to Hargitay, but that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing.

“When Danny Pino (Nick Amaro) and Kelli Giddish (Amanda Rollins) arrived, I felt like I was almost on a new series,” Hargitay explained to TV Insider in a 2018 interview. “Those two brought a completely new energy.”

Many fans still missed the old, however, so people are particularly excited for the upcoming crossover episodes that’ll feature their favorite pair.

Mariska Hargitay Loves the Show for its Bigger Purpose

At the end of the day, Law & Order: SVU is here for a bigger purpose in Mariska Hargitay’s eyes. The show, which tackles the horrific topic of sexual assault, is incredibly important to the actress.

“What is beautiful is that the show has evolved from ‘Let’s shine a light on these issues to ‘Time’s up, let’s make changes and stop these issues.’ I think the culture is catching up,” Hargitay explained to TV Insider.

If you want to catch the new season of Law & Order: SVU, it’ll premiere on Thursday, September 23rd. Following Law & Order: SVU, Law & Order: Organized Crime season 2 will premiere. The two shows were initially supposed to be a part of a three-hour night of Law & Order series, with Law & Order: For The Defense set to join the franchise, but NBC decided to drop For the Defense before it made it to air. Still, Thursday nights this fall should be a huge treat for Law & Order fans.
