Fans of the hit NBC crime drama only have one more day to wait for the series’ landmark event of the season. The popular show premiered back in 1999, and has become a fan-favorite ever since. Few shows last even a few seasons, so it’s a testament to the writers, cast, and crew that the series is still going strong more than 20 years later.
Some of the actors in the crime drama have been making the rounds on talk shows to promote the landmark show. For example, Hargitay made an appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan earlier this morning. She also shared a promo poster for the huge episode on Instagram.
As the promo reveals, the supersized special episode will include numerous stars. Mariska Hargitay, Kelli Giddish, Ice-T, and Peter Scanavino will appear per usual. Additionally, Danny Pino, Tamara Tunie, Dann Florek, Ryan Buggle, Peter Hermann, Aidan Quinn and many more will star in the 500th episode.
You know Law & Order: SVU is a TV juggernaut when the promo poster doesn’t even mention the show’s name. Instead, the promo simply writes “THE FIVE HUNDREDTH EPISODE” in bold print above a black and blue photo of Hargitay. Everyone knows exactly what the photo means, no show title even needed.
“#SVU #500,” the Law & Order star wrote beside lightning and fire emojis.
The post was met by a barrage of fans sharing their excitement for tomorrow night’s episode. With well over 900 comments, it’s a laundry list of reading “I can’t wait” over and over. We can’t blame fans since anticipation for the milestone episode is sky-high.
‘Law & Order: SVU’ Star Says She Was ‘Too Nervous’ To Watch 500th Episode
As previously mentioned, Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay visited with the co-hosts of Live with Kelly and Ryan this morning. While speaking with the pair about her show’s milestone, the actress admitted she felt pressure because of the importance of the episode.
“They sent me the link so many times,” Hargitay said. “I was too nervous to watch it. I’ve been doing this show for so long and Olivia Benson is in me. But I think the idea of the 500th episode was so much pressure on me. I was so nervous every day coming to work. You know how it is, when you’re doing a show for so long, you’re in the grind. All I’m doing … it’s a marathon. I’m on a hamster wheel of lines, lines, lines, lines, lines. Cut, cut, cut, edit, cut. … It’s like making a film every week.”
However, Hargitay did take solace in working with an old friend of the show. Actor Aidan Quinn once made an appearance on the hit drama 14 years ago as a different character. But he’s back for the 500th episode, and she loved working with him once again.
“Aidan Quinn, I can not say enough about what an incredible experience it was,” Hargitay said. “And how safe we both felt with each other.”
“All of a sudden it takes you back to acting class, but that’s what it felt like. We were deeply connected and felt deeply safe. It was a gift and I was nervous, but I know I’ll be proud of it,” she added of working with Quinn.
