‘Law & Order: SVU’ Star Mariska Hargitay Shows Love to Brooke Shields in New Selfies

by Kati Michelle

“Law & Order: SVU” celebrated its 500th episode of a 24 season run just last month. Mariska Hargitay has been stealing the show for just as long with her portrayal of Olivia Benson. The landmark episode featured an emotional deep dive into Detective Benson’s past over a five-act installment with all the usual ups and downs.

One face you might remember from Benson’s past is Brooke Shields’ character, Sheila Porter. This character wreaked complete havoc over Olivia Benson’s life on-screen for weeks. But, off-screen? Brooke Shields and Mariska Hargitay were like two peas in a pod. Actually, they still are. Hargitay’s latest Instagram post is a reminder of their friendship that continues to blossom with every passing year.

A Good Reminder to Be the Sunshine in Someone’s Day Today

This is the series of selfies that “Law & Order: SVU” star Mariska Hargitay posted to her Instagram in support of her past coworker and very dear friend, Brooke Shields. Check it out:

Hargitay rocks a bright hoodie in the shade of “joyful yellow” with “Beginning is Now” written across the hood. She sends her love to Brooke Shields by tagging her along with the reminder to “Be the sunshine in someone’s day today.” This is in reference to the “Beginning is Now” foundation that Shields created to empower a “growing, global community of women of all ages” to learn to live their “fullest lives on their own terms.”

*Outsider bonus: With a growing staff of writers made up of some seriously badass women (including the one writing this), Brooke’s mission is one that Outsider can get behind. We think our readers probably feel the same way. So, thank you!

Brooke Shields Talks About What it Was Like Working With Mariska Hargitay on the Set of ‘Law & Order: SVU’

In talking to In Style, Brooke Shields gushed about working with co-star Mariska Hargitay.

“Generous. She’s just a generous actress. She’s a generous human being too, but she’s also confident in who her character is, and she realizes that it’s as important to have the subsidiary characters be as important and believable because she knows that it’s the picture as a whole that keeps the show running forever and gives it such credibility.”

She also talks about their characters’ interactions:

“I think it’s not really about challenging [Benson]. There’s a very human side to her no matter how tough she is as a cop. We know she’s strong, but she’s also a mom and she’s also human. And how do you reconcile both of those sides of you?”

Here’s how Mariska Hargitay convinced Brooke Shields to play a grandmother in the first place:
