Mariska Hargitay, better known as Captain Olivia Benson on the hit crime show “Law & Order: SVU” tends to keep her marriage private and off social media.
The actress has been married since August 28, 2004. They were dating two years before that as well.
Mariska Hargitay Shares Husband’s Picture
Recently, she shared a gorgeous photo her husband Peter Hermann took on her Instagram account. She captioned it, “Good morning. I couldn’t not share this gorgeous photo that my husband just took.”
Peter Hermann is also an actor. He has appeared in “Philomena,” “United 93,” “Edge of Darkness,” “Younger,” “Blue Bloods,” and “Law & Order: SVU.” The two actually met when he was on the show playing Attorney Trevor Langan.
In 2006, the two had a son together — August Miklos Friedrich Hermann. They also adopted two children later, Amaya Josephine and Andrew.
According to an interview with People in 2019, Mariska Hargitay knew right away she would marry Hermann. Their first date happened when he invited her to go to church with him. She was so convinced she would marry him that she broke down in tears during the service.
Despite knowing right there that there was a long future with Hermann, the two did experience some normal relationship roadblocks. Meanwhile, Christopher Meloni, her co-star for years on “Law & Order: SVU,” knew they were the perfect pairing.
He recently told the outlet, “After they’d been dating a long time, she came in one day and she was crushed. She goes, ‘Peter and I had a really deep, long conversation. We cried, and I just don’t think it’s going to work.’ And she’s sobbing, and the whole time … The [thought] bubble in my head was just: ‘You’ll be married within five months.’ That’s all I was thinking. I knew. I knew.”
Mariska Hargitay Back to Work on ‘Law & Order: SVU’
Mariska Hargitay’s character on “Law & Order: SVU” is the longest-running character in a primetime live-action series. She surpassed both James Arness and Milburn Stone from “Gunsmoke” as well as Kelsey Grammer’s Frasier Crane.
The show was also given a 3-year renewal and will reach a season 24.
Given her long-term status and devotion to the series, both on and off the screen, Hargitay isn’t willing to take time away from her role. The actress recently broke her ankle but was spotted on the set of “Law & Order: SVU” with a pair of crutches handy as well as an orthopedic air cast on her foot. As always, she looked cheery and excited as she exited the car, according to People.
The actress broke her ankle while leaving a Cinema Society screening of “Black Widow” in the Hamptons. She was treated at a nearby hospital and missed the after-party she was hosting at her home.
“I am getting better every day and very excited to go back to work and keep the streets of New York City safe,” Hargitay said to the outlet in reference to her role on the series.
