New set photos from Law & Order: SVU have fans a bit worried about Stabler and Benson, but thankfully it’s all just theories. The two reunited in season 22 of the show, and now fans are wondering if there’s the potential for romance on the horizon in season 23.

A few weeks ago, some photos leaked that showed Benson in the same outfit as the wedding from the season 22 finale. This means that there likely won’t be a time jump. Another photo from Law & Order: Organized Crime shows Elliot Stabler in a full beard wearing a New York Fire Department uniform.

Fans have wondered if this somehow means that something happened between the two after the wedding, that maybe they had a falling out, leading to Stabler quitting the Organized Crime Department. However, it’s also likely that Stabler is just going undercover. Besides, why would a falling out with Benson prompt him to quit his job?

But who knows, anything can happen, so fans will just have to find out when the shows come back.

‘Law & Order: SVU’ And ‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ Will Have Multiple Crossover Episodes Next Season

Whatever happens between Benson and Stabler, there’s sure to be plenty of drama. The two shows will absolutely have more crossover episodes next year. Executive Producer Ilene Chaiken told Entertainment Weekly that they will “certainly do more crossovers in the future.”

Not only that, but now that COVID-19 isn’t messing with the scheduling and coordinating of the show so much, things are more open. Producers have also learned a lot more about planing these episodes.

“We will be more or less on the same schedule. So we’ll be able to coordinate better and plan these events better,” she said.

But while these are fun, the first one was incredibly nerve-wracking. Meloni once admitted that returning to SVU was incredibly difficult for him.

“It was nerve-wracking as hell leading up to it.” Meloni said of his show’s crossover with Law & Order: SVU in an interview with People. “People asked me how does it feel? It was one of the most difficult things I’ve ever had to do as an actor,” Meloni said. “Because I think so much energy was needed to block out the anticipation or expectation. You just can’t get locked up into that.”

Both Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime make their returns on Thursday, September 23rd on NBC. The two shows were originally supposed to air alongside a third Law & Order spinoff this year, Law & Order: For the Defense but it was scrapped by NBC before it got to air.

Law & Order: SVU is in for a big season. With crossover events and a jaw-dropping 500th episode, it should definitely be one for the books.
