‘Law & Order: SVU’: Olivia Benson’s Adoption Decisions Leaves Fans Divided

by Joe Rutland

“Law & Order: SVU” fans are some of the most loyal you’ll find. But they have differing opinions when it comes to Olivia Benson and adoption.

Benson, played by Mariska Hargitay on the NBC police drama, has had opportunities to adopt a child. Yet her decision around doing so has left some fans scratching their heads.

A recent Reddit thread was focused on this topic and, well, it was a lively discussion. Its title: “i really wish had adopted a daughter instead of a son.”

‘Law & Order: SVU’ Viewers Aren’t Shy With Their Thoughts on Benson

One “Law & Order: SVU” fan started it by writing, “imagine how much of a feminist boss mum she would be to a little girl and a teenage girl!! i would love to see that dynamic.”

Another fan replied, “I think we need more mums like Olivia raising feminist sons.”

Yet another opinion was shared on the Reddit thread. “Its like life though. You don’t get to choose if you have a boy or a girl. And its often like that with adoption too.” another fan wrote.

This “Law & Order: SVU” fan was looking toward a possible couple between Benson and Elliot Stabler, played by Christopher Meloni. “depending on if they do Bensler then she just might! she deserves more kids” was that fan’s two cents’ worth.

In conclusion, this fan wrote, “Yeah. Instead they made Rollins the girl mom!!”

Show’s Viewers Will Have to Wait and See What Benson Does This Season

So, as you can tell Outsiders, these “Law & Order: SVU” fans have lots of views around Olivia and adoption. Just another day in the life of the popular NBC show’s viewers sharing their thoughts about it.

What will she do this season? Well, Outsiders who love this show can tune in for Season 23 this fall. Hargitay returns in her role as Olivia Benson. “Law & Order: SVU” will air in its familiar Thursday night timeslot at 9 p.m. Eastern, 8 p.m. Central.

Meloni, who reprised his role as Stabler last season, will return for the second season of “Law & Order: Organized Crime” at 10 p.m. Eastern, 9 p.m. Central.

One of his “Law & Order: SVU” co-stars (not Hargitay) expressed support for Meloni making his call on leaving. Ice-T, who plays Detective Odafin “Fin” Tutuola, told Hollywood Life his thoughts around Meloni.

“The cool thing is me and Chris are friends,” Ice-T said. “So 12 years ago when he left to do his thing, I was 100 percent behind Chris’ moves. Like I’ve said, a lot of people don’t get into acting to play one part for 20 years, you know? It’s like me only singing one song at the concert every year.

Ice-T has a musical career as a hip-hop artist.
