On Wednesday, Law & Order shared a hilarious post that perfectly captures lingering feelings from when you say something embarrassing.
We’ve all been there at some point. You end up inserting your foot directly into your mouth. Or sometimes you fumble over your words and end up saying the wrong thing. Regardless of how or when, occasionally those misspoken words and sentences can stick with us. In some cases, for a very, very long time.
But at least Law & Order‘s Twitter account is here to help us find some humor in those awkward situations. The account shared an amusing GIF of a scene from the show. Actress Mariska Hargitay is shaking her head and saying that “there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t regret that.”
In this case, “that” is “when your brain reminds you of something embarrassing you said” in your past. It happens to the best of us.
‘Law & Order’ Actor Mariska Hargitay Shares Funny Story About How She Met Co-Star Chris Meloni
During Season 20 of the actors talk show, host James Lipton interviewed Hargitay about her acting career. While speaking about her career on Law & Order, Lipton of course mentioned her co-star Chris Meloni. The two worked together for years on the hit crime drama series. Their chemistry on-screen has always been evident and it’s hard to think of one without the other in most cases.
The pair originally met while auditioning for the show years ago. Hargitay was a friend of a friend of one of the other actors at the audition. When she first saw the mutual friend, the actress yelled out his name and opened her arms wide to hug him. However, Meloni hilariously butted in. He shouted out his own last name, “Meloni!” before stepping in and hugging her back. Hargitay and Meloni had never met until that moment.
“I was already standing up, and so we did this huge hug, and we’d never met,” Hargitay hilariously explains to Lipton. “He has a huge tattoo of Jesus on the cross, and so I said, ‘Oh my gosh, are you a Christian?’ And he’s like, ‘Um, no.’ And I said, ‘Then why do you have that?’ He goes, ‘Just liked his commitment.’ That sort of sums up Meloni.”
Following the actors’ individual auditions, Law & Order showrunners paired up some of them up for joint auditions. Of course, as fate would have it, Hargitay and Meloni were paired to read together.
“I knew it was done then. It just happened, it was a pairing,” Hargitay said on Inside the Actors Studio.
“The chemistry was there from the beginning,” Lipton chimed in.
“From the first second before we even [auditioned]. You can’t write it,” she said of their immediate bond.
