‘Law & Order: SVU’ Season 23 Given Premiere Date, Airing at Special Time

Get ready “Law & Order: SVU” fans! A new season of the long-running show will be headed your way in the very near future.

According to TV Line, the popular drama’s 23rd season will premiere on Thursday, Sept 23. The season-opener will be a special two-hour event. And, it will begin at a special time. So, when you are making an entry on your calendar, be sure to note that the episode will air at 8 p.m.

Also, Sept. 23 will be a real “Law & Order” evening on NBC. Following the season premiere of “SVU,” “Law & Order: Organized Crime” will air at 10 p.m.

The following week will again see “SVU” hit the small screen at 8 p.m. This will be followed by two episodes of “Organized Crime” beginning at 9 p.m.

“SVU” has a lot of momentum going into its 23rd season. It is riding a wave of popularity created by the reunion of Elliott Stabler (played Chris Meloni) and Olivia Benson (played Mariska Hargitay) during the final episode of its previous season. Some fans have even started – or continued – “shipping” the two characters. Whether they become a romantic item is yet to be seen.

Stabler and Benson sharing a toast “to partners” during the “Law & Order: SVU” season finale really makes one think about what the future could hold.

That’s just another reason to watch the 23rd season. Even though Stabler and Benson are the centers of different series, they do crossover and appear on each other shows. For instance, Benson also appeared in the season finale of “Organized Crime” earlier this year. So, there’s hope that this is a practice the “Law & Order” franchise will continue this practice.

There was also excitement surrounding the shows because of the return of Chris Meloni to the “Law & Order” universe. The actor left the franchise in 2011 due to a contract dispute. Needless to say, fans were very happy to have Meloni playing Stabler back.

“Law & Order” SVU” and “Law & Order: Organized Crime” are not the only popular drama series that will be returning to NBC this fall. Most of these premieres – both of returning shows and new series – will take place during late September 2021, specifically the week of Sept. 20.

On Monday, Sept. 20, the season premiere of “The Voice” will air at 8 p.m. This will be followed by the first episode of a new show titled, “Ordinary Joe.”

“New Amsterdam” will premiere its new season at 10 p.m the following evening. Then, on Wednesday, Sept. 22, the network’s “Chicago” series will premiere. First, “Chicago Med” will air at 8 p.m. It will be followed by “Chicago Fire” at 9 p.m. and “Chicago P.D.” at 10 p.m.

As previously mentioned, Thursday, Sept. 23, is “Law & Order” night. “Dateline” will air on Friday, Sept. 24, at 9 p.m. Other NBC premiere dates include “La Brea” at 9 p.m. on Sept. 28. And, “The Blacklist” at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21.
