Mariska Hargitay always appears to be having so much fun acting on Law & Order: SVU, which we know is a super serious show.
On Monday, she shared a playful photo on Instagram. Hargitay showed up on set in a prairie-style dress, as did another co-star for a Law & Order: SVU dress rehearsal. Olivia Benson is all perfect blazer and pants, on set. Hargitay’s personal tastes are more whimsical. You can see she brings the fun to a role she’s had for 23 seasons.
And because we’re talking about Hargitay, we know she brings some hashtags to the Instagram caption banter, so pay close attention.
First she wrote “Little house in thesquadroom #WeShowedUpLikeThis #BTS #GreatMinds
Then, the Law & Order: SVU star referenced square dancing (we think):
“#DancingQueens #DancingCaptain #DancingDetective #RingAroundTheSquadroom #SwingYourPartnerRoundAndRound #MorningMoves #MondayMoves #Rehearsal #DressRehearsal”
And finally, there were references to the dresses and her co-star:
#PrairieParty #LoveThisLady #FierceFemaleFriendships. I thank my lucky stars every day that I get to work with this one.”
Meanwhile, Hargitay also took some time away from Law & Order: SVU to watch the U.S. Open tennis championship. She and husband, Peter Hermann, watched the men’s semifinal match between Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev. They were sitting in the Grey Goose luxury box at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Then former co-star Christopher Meloni surprised Hargitay and kissed her on the forehead. Meloni brought his wife to the match. People magazine reported that Hargitay knew Meloni would be there. However, she didn’t know they’d all be in the same box. It made for a fun photo. Hargitay brought her son, August, to Sunday’s final.
Fans of Law & Order: SVU Ponder Whether Benson and Stabler Get Together
Law & Order: SVU and spinoff Organized Crime will premiere in back-to-back episodes, Sept. 23. But NBC is going heavy on its network franchise, Law & Order: SVU. That’s why it’s receiving a full two-hour premiere. An NBC teased a trailer for the premiere, as it left clues that Benson might’ve been in a car accident. At the end of the trailer, Meloni says “Liv, stay with me.”
And fans are abuzz wondering if Meloni’s Elliot Stabler and Benson will ever get together. Stabler and Benson were partners for the first dozen years of SVU. But Meloni left the show over a contract dispute. He returned to star in Law & Order: Organized Crime in April. In the spinoff, Meloni’s Stabler is getting over the death of his wife.
There will be crossovers between the show. In Organized Crime, Meloni’s Stabler is going undercover in an effort to bust up a crime syndicate that sells cocaine in New York as its main business. Meloni said Stabler may be losing himself in the undercover job. That’s where Benson comes in.
On Monday, Meloni participated in NBCUniversal’s 2021 Summer Press Tour. He talked about what may happen between Stabler and Benson.
“Benson recognizes certain telltale signs that he might need to talk to people and that it might not be the healthiest place for him to be in the moment,” Meloni said.
“Our lives do overlap and intersect,” he said. However, he added, “things are more professional than personal in the first few episodes.”
