‘Law & Order: SVU’ Star Mariska Hargitay Says ‘Here We Go’ in Snap Ahead of Season 23

by Anna Dunn

Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay just revealed that production for season 23 has begun. In a photo posted to the Olivia Benson actress’s Instagram, Hargitay throws a peace sign and mentions that Law & Order: SVU season 23 is officially in production

“Season 23. Here we go…..#Svu23#23,” she wrote, followed by a bunch of fire emojis. While most actors come and go on a series this long, Hargitay has been in it for the long haul. She’s been on the show for every single season since its premiere in 1999. She’s even broken the record for the longest amount of time an actor has consecutively played a character on TV.

The show has been on so long that some fans are younger, or just as old as the show.

“i love that i turn 23 during season 23,” one fan wrote. “i’ll never forget what season svu is on.”

Some fans are just thrilled the season is coming back.

“not me looking in the reflection of her sunglasses,” another fan said, trying to get a sneak peek at any behind-the-scenes action.

Other Fans Asked About the ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Star’s Leg Injury

Other fans were quick to ask how Hargitay is doing with her leg injury. The actress injured her leg severely earlier in the year, and then re-injured herself trying to get home after a screening of Marvel’s Black Widow. Thankfully, she’s been in great spirits about the whole thing.

She’s also received a ton of support from fans and friends. In one hilarious instance, her comedian friend Melissa McCarthy stood on the street with a sign that hilariously said “Honk if you’re PRAYING for Mariska Hargitay’s recovery!!!”

While Hargitay’s health should come above all else, fans couldn’t help but wonder how this would impact the upcoming season of the hit series. It looks like, even though she’s still healing, they are back on set and ready to shoot.

There are a couple of ways that production can get around Hargitay’s leg injury:

First, the writer’s room may write in Hargitay’s real-life injury into the show, having Olivia Benson take a tumble. Though, it’s unlikely she’d do it during a Black Widow premiere and more likely that she’d do it while chasing down a suspect.

They could also simply hide her injury. They may just have Olivia Benson not do much running around during the first part of the season. Fans will have to wait and see.

Law & Order: SVU will return relatively soon. You can catch Law & Order: SVU along with its Elliot Stabler spinoff series, Law & Order: Organized Crime on Thursday, September 23rd, 2021 on CBS. The two shows were supposed to air alongside a new show called Law & Order: For the Defense, put plans for the series have since been scrapped by the network.
