“It hurt, thank you for asking,” reads Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay’s shirt. She smiles with big round sunglasses as she hobbles on her crutches. Along with her comical T-shirt, she wears a flowing skirt that surely is much easier to put over a boot than pants. And to finish the look, on her uninjured foot, she wears a single Air Jordan sneaker with a pink accent. It’s not often we see the actress behind sincere Detective Olivia Benson wear color, so even this pop of pink is a change.
With how many questions celebrities get while walking on the streets, we think the Law & Order: SVU star might just start a trend with her blunt graphic tee. Other ones to consider adding to her closet might be “Yes, it’s me,” or “No pictures today,” or even “It’s Hargitay not Benson.” But with the smile on her face, Hargitay doesn’t really seem to mind the questions about her latest injury.
In fact, Hargitay seems more than happy to share updates about her leg with her Instagram followers. Two days ago on July 19, the Law & Order: SVU star posted a photo that marked her move from a cast to a boot. With both legs propped up on the table, she simultaneously showed off her left foot in the same Air Jordans and her right foot in its new, cushy kicks.
Hargitay herself still hasn’t disclosed to followers how she ended up with her leg injuries over the summer, but in true Olivia Benson-style, we did some detective work of our own to find out.
‘Law & Order: SVU’ Star Received Injuries After Film Screening
Believe it or not, the Law & Order: SVU star’s injury actually involved a black widow.
Okay, it was Scarlett Johansson in a celebrity screening of Black Widow, but still. Anyway, as the crowd started to exit the Regal UA East Hampton Cinema, Hargitay rushed past into the rain to get home before her guests. According to Cinema Blend, the actress agreed to host an after-party that we never received an invite to.
But, as fate would have it, Hargitay would miss the majority of her own party because she slipped in the rain, badly injuring both her legs. She sustained a broken knee on one leg and a hairline fracture and torn ligament in her ankle on the other. Hargitay’s husband, Peter Hermann, reported that she spent several hours at the hospital before she could come home. And by that time, the party was just about over. (Though, we’re sure that was the least of her concerns.)
Throughout her recovery, though, the Law & Order: SVU star has kept herself in high spirits, often making jokes at her own expense in her Instagram posts. From hashtags like #SpecialAnkleUnit and #CaptainCrutch, we’re confident Hargitay is going to recover just fine. And perhaps now, she’ll be a little more careful in the rain.
