While LeVar Burton did not become the host of Jeopardy! he did learn some things while guest hosting. Like how great Alex Trebek really was.

Now that the guest-hosting is over and the show and Burton have moved on, he is fine talking about the experience. The actor and host have had quite a career. He is already a legend and a childhood role model for so many generations of Americans. From Reading Rainbow to Star Trek and more. So, what exactly did he learn from his time at Jeopardy! as host?

Well, when Rolling Stone asked, he had quite an answer. “Alex was, in fact, a genius savant at that game. I really feel like given an opportunity, I would have mastered it, but it’s a lot harder than it looks. Out of the entire experience, I learned that everything does always work out for the best. The opportunities that I’m looking at right now would have never come to me had I gotten that gig.”

One of those opportunities recently revealed itself. It turns out that Burton is going to host a game show after all. It will be trivia-based as well. He is going to be the host of a new edition of a Trivial Pursuit show. Based on the classic board game, this should be a fun endeavor for the actor.

Although he didn’t get the Jeopardy! job, LeVar Burton did receive overwhelming support during his time as guest host. Of course, he appreciated every bit of that support. It shows just how popular Burton is across many different ages and demographics.

LeVar Burton Grateful for Support on ‘Jeopardy!’

During that same conversation with Rolling Stone, LeVar Burton talked about all that support he got. He had a big task ahead of him and he did his best to deliver for fans and viewers. With the talent and personality that Burton has, it is no wonder why fans wanted to see him behind the podium permanently.

“I felt the love,” Burton said. “I can hardly speak about the experience. It was overwhelming, and it came from all quarters of the fandom. People who are casual fans reached out and said, ‘This makes so much sense. You were done dirty.’ In the midst of all of that, one of the best things to come out of it was the love.”

As for Burton’s future, it is clear he will get that love and support when he moves onto his Trivial Pursuit show. So, if you’re one of those fans that wanted to see him replace Trebek, now you can see him undertake his own show. It should be a lot less nerve-wracking.

LeVar Burton is happy to take on the new endeavor. “I am thrilled to have partnered with Hasbro and eOne to bring this beloved game to market as a premium show for television.”
