Lisa Marie Presley Gets Joint Custody of Twin Daughters with Ex-Husband

by Suzanne Halliburton

A Los Angeles judge awarded joint custody of twin daughters to both Lisa Marie Presley and her ex-husband. The decision ended an often bitter, three-month court battle.

The judge also ruled that Lisa Marie, the only child of Elvis Presley, undergo random monthly drug tests for the next year.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Dianna Gould-Saltman ruled on the case, Dec. 8, although the details weren’t made immediately available. My News LA quoted court documents last week.

The judge chastised both parents — Lisa Marie and her ex husband, guitarist Michael Lockwood for their behavior.

“The court finds that the conflict between the parties and their communication difficulties have had a detrimental (impact on) the children’s best interests,” the judge wrote.

Lisa Marie Presley And Lockwood Married in 2006

Presley and Lockwood married in 2006. It was Presley’s fourth marriage. Danny Keough, her first husband, was best man at the wedding between Presley and Lockwood. In March 2008, Presley announced she was pregnant following media reports speculating on her weight gain. Five months later, the parents welcomed fraternal twins Harper Vivienne Ann and Finley Aaron Love.

Presley filed for divorce in 2016. Within two years, Lockwood asked for more spousal support. Meanwhile, Presley said the twins were taken into protective custody. Presley said Lockwood kept inappropriate photos of the girls on his computer.

However, in her ruling, Gould-Saltman wrote “the court finds that the children are not at risk of harm with their father.”

Lockwood Filed For Full Custody This Summer

This summer, Lockwood asked the court for primary custody of the twins. He said he believed Presley would suffer a relapse of her drug addiction following the suicide of her son, 27-year-old Benjamin Keough.

Lockwood also accused Presley of using her religion to place a wedge between the father and his daughters. Presley was raised as a Scientologist but left the church in 2014. In court documents, Lockwood’s lawyers wrote:

“The children told (Lockwood) that (Presley) walked around the house with a gun in her hand in 2017. There was at least one gun on the premises of her home at the time of her son’s suicide and it is unclear where the gun was kept or whether Finley and/or Harper might have access to this gun or others.”

The judge said she did not believe Presley was abusing drugs. But she said in her ruling that Presley:

“During the relevant times, was so abusing drugs that her ability to interpret and recall events accurately was distorted and untrustworthy. It is to her credit that she has since overcome her addiction and continues to take steps to ensure her sobriety.”

Lisa Marie Presley is mother to four children. She had Benjamin and daughter Riley with her first husband.
