‘Little House on the Prairie’: Bonnie Bartlett Felt ‘It Was a Fairytale’ to Star in Series as Grace Snider Edwards

Working as a member of the supporting cast on “Little House on the Prairie” was one of the highlights of actress Bonnie Bartlett’s career. And, who can blame her for thinking that? It is one of the most beloved television shows ever made after all.

During an interview with the Television Academy Foundation, Bartlett talked about her time on the show and just how much it meant to her. She played the character, Grace Snider Edwards.

“I adored ‘Little House on the Prairie,'” she said.

In fact, the actress was so happy to be working on the show that its demanding schedule didn’t bother her one bit.

“I would leave here at like 4 in the morning. I would get in the car and Bill (her husband, actor William Daniels) would say, ‘I never saw anybody at 4 in the morning so happy to go to work,” Bartlett recalled about her days going to Simi Valley to shoot. “… It was just a fairytale for me.”

Also during the interview, she refers to “Little House on the Prairie” as a “fairytale western.”

“You know, it’s not realistic, but they built a whole city out there of what this would be,” Bartlett also said. “I worked mostly with Melissa and she was the most marvelous little girl. She was so smart. We would have these interesting conversations, wonderful conversations. …”

Bartlett also said she enjoyed working with Michael Landon, the star of “Little House on the Prairie.”

“Michael Landon was so wonderful,” she added. “… I loved Melissa and I loved everybody that was on the show. …”

She also referred to Landon as “very pleasant” and “very nice.”

According to IMDb.com, Bartlett appeared on “Little House on the Prairie” from 1974 until 1979.

Bonnie Bartlett Appeared in Many Television Shows Other Than ‘Little House on the Prairie’

Whether you’re have seen every episode of “Little House on the Prairie” or not, chances are you recognize Bonnie Bartlett. Thanks to her many appearances on popular television shows during her career, Bartlett is a familiar face.

According to IMDb.com, some of the television shows she worked on include “The Waltons,” “Gunsmoke,” “The Rockford Files,” “Barney Miller,” “Lou Grant,” “The Golden Girls,” “St. Elsewhere,” “Matlock,” “ER,” “Home Improvement,” and “Better Call Saul.”

Bartlett also talked about appearing on “The Waltons” during her interview with the Television Academy Foundation.

“I loved that,” she said about being on “The Waltons.” “That’s really my natural thing. I played a woman that was much older, but it was very emotional. It was just me and the husband and John Boy and it was about a car. … I loved playing westerns. I just felt so at home. … loved the feeling – that homey feeling. Put me in a long skirt and I’m happy.”

No wonder Bonnie Bartlett enjoyed her time on “Little House on the Prairie” so much.
