When watching a classic TV drama like “Little House on the Prairie,” there are going to be scenes that pretty much move you to tears.
Michael Landon, who played Charles Ingalls in the NBC family show, made sure tender moments involving cast members were a part of different episodes.
Some stand out more than others, so let’s take a look at a few of them. You will be able to see a number of them in a “Little House on the Prairie” compilation video at the bottom.
In one scene, Mr. Edwards, played by Victor French, tells Laura, played by Melissa Gilbert, that it’s time for him to go.
“I figure it’s time to say goodbye,” Mr. Edwards said. “I don’t want to,” young Laura responds.
“Well, me neither Half-Pint (Laura’s nickname) but um, um,” Mr. Edwards, eyes tearing up, said. “I’ll never forget you, Mr. Edwards,” Laura replies, getting up, tears in her eyes, and giving him a big hug.
“I hope not,” he replies, “’cause I’ll be remembering you.” After they embrace, Laura runs off and Mr. Edwards is left to gather his thoughts while tears run down his cheeks.
Ma Faces Serious Illness On ‘Little House on the Prairie’
Another “Little House on the Prairie” scene opens up with Charles, Laura, and Mary, played by Melissa Sue Anderson.
“I’ve never seen Ma (played by Karen Grassle) so sick before,” Laura said.
“Neither have I,” Charles said. “Your Ma’s real strong and Dr. Baker’s doing everything he can.”
“She’s not going to die, is she Pa?” Mary asks.
“Now c’mon, it’s no time to talk about something like that,” Charles responds. “God takes care of those that love him.”
“He has to let Ma live, he just has to,” Laura said with tears in her eyes.
“He will, you wait and see,” Charles said.
“We just have to pray with all our hearts,” Laura said after walking up to Charles.
Laura Faces Reality That Family Dog Jack Has Died
One more scene that’ll rip your heart out shows Charles coming into the barn, where Laura is looking over at the family dog Jack.
Now Jack isn’t moving and Laura has, of course, tears in her eyes.
Charles looks over at Jack, bends down, and puts his hand on him.
“He’s dead, isn’t he Pa?” Laura asks. Charles offers no response as, obviously, Jack is no longer alive.
These and a number of other scenes from “Little House on the Prairie” will make you get the Kleenex box. The way that Landon, Gilbert, Grassle, Anderson, and the entire cast tug at your heartstrings will definitely bring you to tears, too.
