Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Viewers Are Ticked About the ‘Moulin Rouge’ Performance

by Clayton Edwards

Every year, millions of Americans tune in to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. At this point, it is as much a part of the holiday as turkey, football, and family gatherings. This year, parade organizers added a little spice with the cast of Moulin Rouge! The Musical. Cast members from the multiple-Tony-Award-winning show did a song and dance number during the parade and some viewers were aghast. They called the performance “risqué” and more. Check out the performance below. Then, we’ll get into the reactions.

The song is called “The Sparkling Diamond” and the performance left many Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade viewers clutching their pearls. For instance, one person took to Twitter to say “Moulin Roge inappropriate for #MacysParade.”

Another outraged Twitter user said it wasn’t just inappropriate. It was also too early for that kind of performance. “What a catastrophic fail in opening the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade: risqué Moulin Rouge for our family’s wake-up!?!?” It was a killer performance. So, “catastrophic fail” seems a little harsh.

Another person tuned in to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade and ended up confused. The baffled Twitter user said, “Bro what on Earth was that from Moulin Rouge?” Hopefully, someone was there to help them in their time of confusion. Holidays are hectic enough without being perplexed by a parade performance.

Another Twitter user was either completely outraged or totally kidding. Either way, they, said that there was something sinister about the Moulin Rouge performance. “This Moulin Rouge thing is the actual Satanic ritual.” Let’s hope they were kidding.

Not All Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade Viewers Were Upset

Many people who tuned in for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade were fans of the musical and took to Twitter to combat all the complaints. One Twitter user defended the performance but did find one thing about it inappropriate. “The only inappropriate thing about what they were wearing was that it is too cold for those outfits.” Honestly, that was my first thought when I watched it, too. Talk about dedication to your craft.

Another Twitter user did have one complaint. However, it wasn’t about the performance at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. It was about Facebook. “And just like that my entire Facebook is moms complaining about Moulin Rouge in the Macy’s parade.”

A few Macy’s Parade viewers took time out of their Thanksgiving morning to clap back at some of the complainers. One of those interactive users told complainers to “Cry about it,” before going deeper. “Moulin Rouge should have been your first sign to change the channel if you get so upset by pretty women.” Dang. I hope they don’t burn the rolls that bad.

The most hilarious of the defenders said they were glad to see that the Moulin Rouge musical was “keeping the tradition of pissing off ‘concerned parents’ watching the Macy’s Parade alive.”
