Teaching one of your children to drive can be a very stressful experience. Luckily for movie star Mark Wahlberg, things seem to be going smoothly with one of his children.

Recently, the “Boogie Nights,” “The Departed,” and “Ted” star shared an update about the driving lessons he is leading via social media. And according to PEOPLE, the video he shared documents the first driving lesson for his 12-year-old son, Brendan.

The very cute Brendan, who looks a lot like his famous father, is one of four children Mark Wahlberg has had with his wife, Rhea Durham. They also share their 17-year-old daughter, Ella, 15-year-old son, Michael, and 11-year-old daughter, Grace.

Fans of the famous family got a glimpse into the Wahlbergs’ lives – and driving lessons – thanks to the 50-year-old actor’s social media post from Sunday, Aug. 8. The lesson Wahlberg captured on that day was the very first for Brendan.

Also, wisely, the movie star decided not to put his son behind the wheel of a fancy car and out on the highways. Instead, Mark Wahlberg decided to begin teaching his son the rules of the road by allowing him to drive a golf cart.

Mark Wahlberg Says Children Learn How to Drive Best ‘On a Golf Cart’

“Best way to learn how to drive is to start on a golf cart,” Mark Wahlberg says at the start of the Instagram video. The wind is blowing in his hair as Brendan takes charge of their adventure.

Wahlberg then praises his son’s efforts behind the wheel. “This boy knows how to drive,” he also says. This praise clearly makes Brendan happy. You can watch as he smiles widely after his famous father’s comment.

Like any wise father – and driver – Mark Wahlberg then cautions his son about safety behind the wheel.

“Watch the road, not the camera. First driving lesson with dad. He’s good,” Wahlberg also shares.

In addition to what he has to say in his driving lesson Instagram video, Mark Wahlberg shared another thought in the video’s caption.

“Driving lesson! The kid’s a natural,” the popular actor also posted.

Being famous and a father is something that Mark Wahlberg takes very seriously. And, he reportedly wants his children to be able to grow up out of the spotlight as much as possible. He talked about this during a July 2021 interview with Entertainment Tonight.

“Me being in the public eye, there are pros to that, but there’s a lot of cons. My kids wanna have their own identity, you know? I’m not allowed to get out of the car at football practice or a game. I gotta sit in the car and watch,” Wahlberg shared.

Being a very famous person and making his children feel safe is a challenge for Mark Wahlberg.

“At first I took it personally, because I wanna be there to support them, but supporting them is by making them feel comfortable in what they’re doing and them having their own identity too. It’s very difficult,” he also said.
