by Samantha Whidden

Well, it’s official. On Monday (October 11), fan-favorite Matt Amodio finished his historical Jeopardy! winning streak at 38 wins. He also is taking home total cash winnings of $1,518,601.

According to Variety, Amodio is now in third place for regular Jeopardy! season play behind Ken Jennings ($2,520,700) and pro sports gambler James Holzhauer ($2,462,216). Amodio is also in second place for the all-time consecutive wins rankings behind only Jennings (74 wins).

Amodio’s final Jeopardy! clue was “Nazi Germany annexed this nation and divided it into regions of the Alps and the Danube; the Allies later divided it into four sectors.” The correct response was, “What is Austria?” But Amodio’s answer was “What is Poland?”

Amodio will notably return for the Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions series. In a statement, Amodio spoke about his accomplishment on the show and said he always wanted to be a Jeopardy! champion.

“I know going into every bar trivia game that I play that I’m going to come in with a little intimidation factor,” the game show Champ declared. “But also, I just like the badger that it represents. As somebody who prioritizes knowledge and knowing things, this is really a good one to have following me everywhere.”

Jonathan Fisher, an actor originally from Coral Gables, Florida, beat Amodio and won his first game with a total winning amount of $29,200. Jessica Stephens, a statistical research specialist from Nashville, Tennessee took second place with $28,799. Amodio came in third place with $5,600.

Matt Amodio Has Nothing But Love For the Hit Game Show

During a recent interview with Good Morning America, Matt Amodio revealed how much Jeopardy! really means to him. “Jeopardy! [is] not one person. Jeopardy! is a whole team and there’s one person changing but everything else is staying the same. The crew does a great job of keeping the contestants comfortable and making them feel special.”

Amodio also spoke about the game show’s host, Mayim Bialik. “She’s great. She’s a lot of fun. When the host has energy and is enjoying it, that spreads to the contestants.”

Bialik and Jennings will be hosts of Jeopardy! For the rest of the year as Sony Pictures Television continues to search for the game show’s permanent host.
