by Keeli Parkey

Matthew McConaughey has been a fan of wrestling for most of his life. In fact, the Hollywood star said he has enjoyed watching the sport and its drama since he was 8 years old.

Now, he is sharing his love of wrestling with his children. He talked about passing that love of the WWE on to them during a recent interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The host prompts the discussion by showing a clip of the actor and his two sons watching a WWE match from the virtual stands.

“I bet the boys liked that, huh?” Kimmel asked.

“They did,” Matthew McConaughey said in response. “I’ve taken them to see some live shows here in Austin and it’s a gas, man. The shows are fun …”

He then offered some words of praise for the management of the WWE.

“That group, everyone that runs the WWE, they are so doggone friendly and family-oriented,” he added. “They treated us wonderfully.”

McConaughey then goes into his long fandom for professional wrestling. Kimmel was quick to ask the actor who tops the list as his “all-time favorite wrestler.”

“Hacksaw Jim Duggan,” McConaughey quickly responds. “Coming out with the two-by-four, baby.”

Matthew McConaughey was Kicked Out of Wrestling Event for Spitting on WWE Legend

When Matthew McConaughey said he is a wrestling fan, he means it. In fact, he took the sport so seriously that he once spit on a famous wrestler. He recently talked about this humorous event with Maria Menounos on her “Better Together” podcast.

During his childhood, long before he was a famous celebrity, McConaughey went to watch a live wrestling event in Shreveport, Louisiana. Being fired up, the youngster reportedly threw tomatoes at some wrestlers. Then, he even made the bigger mistake of spitting on one of them.

Who did he spit on? None other than legendary wrestler King Kong Bundy. His actions ultimately led to him getting kicked out of the arena. But, that didn’t stop him. The actor told Menounos that he made his way back inside the venue, then was kicked out a second time.

“I got kicked out of Hirsch Coliseum in Shreveport,” McConaughey said on the podcast. “I snuck back in through the bathroom window, and then I got kicked out a second time, the same night for spitting a loogie on King Kong Bundy. He looked me in the eye and got seriously pissed off and scared the heck out of me after I did it.

“And I took off running and they caught me and kicked me out for the second time that night,” he added. “I brought a paper bag full of old, mushed tomatoes and Skandor Akbar comes out and I’m just pelting him. And that was all great until they started really connecting. Then the security found me and they kicked me out.”
