Perhaps it is time to stop asking celebrities about their hygiene routines. The latest to reveal their cleanliness was Matthew McConaughey. With a little digging back to 2008 and a little interview in Playboy, a dirty little secret has resurfaced. While filming Fool’s Gold, the Oscar winner apparently had a bit of a scent his co-star didn’t appreciate.
Kate Hudson starred alongside Matthew McConaughey in Fool’s Gold. During that interview with Playboy, the actor said, “She [Hudson] always brings a salt rock, which is some natural deodorant, and says, ‘Would you please put this on?’ I just never wore it. No cologne, no deodorant.” In fact, he insists this is what his mother and other women prefer.
“The women in my life, including my mother, have all said, ‘Hey, your natural smell smells, one, like a man, and, two, smells like you,” McConaughey explained in the interview. Apparently, Kate Hudson wasn’t appreciating the natural odor. However, it isn’t all bad news for McConaughey lovers.
During the Playboy interview, Matthew McConaughey insisted that he takes his cleanliness seriously. Although he doesn’t use deodorant, he says he takes multiple showers and brushes his teeth up to five times a day. He may have a real argument though, at least if you ask Yvette Nicole Brown.
After starring in Tropic Thunder together, she got close to him to see if he really didn’t have an odor. In a SiriusXM interview recently Brown said, “He does not have an odor. He smells like granola and good living. He has a sweet, sweet scent.” Perhaps it’s working for McConaughey after all.
