On Tuesday (November 16th), Dazed and Confused star Matthew McConaughey took to his Instagram account to share a thoughtful photo of his inner musings.

“Tune into the future, its coming,” Matthew McConaughey captioned the post. He also used a hashtag with “Greenlights Journal,” which is described as a “guided companion” to the actor’s memoir Greenlights.

According to the Greenlights website, Matthew McConaughey has been writing in journals since he was 15-years-old. “His adventures have taken him from Texas to Australia, Mali to Peru, and he has chronicled them all,” the book’s description reads.

Matthew McConaughey also revealed that the “authentic, unconventional journal” encourages reads to go inside and remember, reflect, and musing, and also going outside. “Adventuring, taking risks and dreaming big. Who could be a better guide for seekers setting out on the road to understanding their lives inside and out, past, present, and future?”

Matthew McConaughey Shares Details About ‘Greenlights’

During an interview with GQ earlier this year, Matthew McConaughey opened up about his journal writing and putting together his book Greenlights. “I’m a more evolved man now than I was at 14-years-old when I started writing diaries,” McConaughey stated. He then said when he was younger he saw the subject matters he was interested in. He had a few thoughts about them.

“I was like, ‘You’re essentially the same person, Matthew, You’re still interested in culture and how the world works. How can I be a better person? How can I be a better version of myself?”

However, Matthew McConaughey does admit that he’s not a big sentimentalist nor does he like nostalgia. “It was intimidating to go look at 36 years of my diaries. And I knew it would be uncomfortable at times,” he continued. “I’d been putting this off for 15 years. [I] finally got something and the courage to go, ‘Let’s go see what they are.’ And ended up having a much better time than I thought I might.”

When asked what he thought he’d be more embarrassed about while reading the diaries, Matthew McConaughey said, “Well, youth. You think you’re gonna live forever. There were other times where I was arrogant to the extreme. The ego was on super unleaded.”

In regards to why 2020 was the right time to write the book, Matthew McConaughey thinks it may have been because he was turning 50. “It’s got to have something to do with whatever ideological timeline in life you think you have. Fifty is one of those numbers. I’m not a big number guy. I’ve got friends that I still think are 40 and they’re 62.”

He went on to add that he has been daring himself to write the book for 15 years.
