Television shows have been known to have crossovers between other shows. “Maverick” had a whopper of one in an episode.

In the ABC western’s fourth season, “Hadley’s Hunters” had stars from five TV shows on the air at the time. Let’s talk plot for a minute, though. Bart Maverick, played by Jack Kelly, gets five days to track down alleged stagecoach robber Cherokee Dan Evans.

Evans, though, is innocent. Bart has to figure out how to avoid the bounty placed on his head by Sheriff Hadley if he doesn’t bring back Evans in cuffs.

‘Maverick’ Episode Features Nearly Who’s-Who List Of Actors

This “Maverick” episode is actually chock-full of some of your favorite actors. We haven’t even gotten to the crossover stars as of yet.

Edgar Buchanan, who played Uncle Joe on “Petticoat Junction,” portrays Sheriff Hadley in this episode. Howard McNear, who would find fame as Floyd the barber on “The Andy Griffith Show,” plays Copes.

If that wasn’t enough, then George Kennedy of “Cool Hand Luke” fame strolls on in to portray Deputy Jones.

TV Western Heaven Seems To Appear On ABC Series

Ah, now what about those crossover stars? You have them here in this “Maverick” episode.

First off, Clint Walker from “Cheyenne” plays Cheyenne Bodie. Second, John Russell and Peter Brown from “Lawman” portray Marshal Dan Troop and Deputy Johnny McKay, respectively. Third, Will Hutchins from “Sugarfoot” appears as Tom “Sugarfoot” Brewster. Fourth, Ty Hardin from “Bronco” plays Bronco Layne.

So that’s it for the western TV show stars.

But we’re not done yet, baby. Edd Byrnes of “77 Sunset Strip” shows up as a stableboy. He’s combing the mane of a horse called, get ready for it, “77 Cherokee Strip.”

That’s one stacked lineup for “Maverick” and probably worth catching when it pops up on your TV set.
