‘Mayans MC’ Renewed for Season 4 by FX

by Anna Dunn

FX has officially renewed Mayans MC. The news comes right before the finale of season 3. The show, co-created by Elgin James and Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter, will air its fourth season in 2022.

Mayans MC follows Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes (JD Pardo). Ezekiel starts the series as a new member of the Mayans M.C charter on the California/Mexico Border. While he was once considered a “golden boy,” Ezekiel and his brother work to uncover the mystery behind their mother’s murder. The show also features their father, Felipe (Edward James Olmos), who grapples with the weight behind their decisions.

Nick Grad, the president of original programming for FX Entertainment, said of the decision: “Elgin James, his creative collaborators, this incredible cast and crew delivered on another epic season of ‘Mayans M.C. Through three seasons, ‘Mayans’ has told stories that resonate well beyond the border where the club thrives and survives, inviting fans inside their world and giving them a seat at the table.”

‘Mayans MC’ Creator Expresses Excitement

Elgin James, one of the co-creators, expressed his excitement over the renewal. “I am deeply indebted to everyone at FX and 20th for allowing us to continue to tell the stories of the characters that Kurt and I created and whom our cast and crew took to new heights in season 3.”

According to James, there are also big things to come in season 4. “In season 4, we look forward to diving deeper into each character’s truths, exploring the danger of the combustible world they inhabit, and for each writer, cast member, and crew to stake out our place as storytellers, ” he continued.

Many have noted just how much the show has improved. According to critics, the beginning season was strong but struggled with pacing. Now, the show has barreled forward with new plots and expanded character arcs that many say make the story even more interesting.

The series first aired on September 4th, 2018. Its current third season is ten episodes long and is produced by 20th Television and FX Productions.

FX has also renewed many of its popular shows. This includes Pose, American Horror Story, What We Do in the Shadows, and Atlanta. Its comedic counterpart network, FXX, has renewed Archer, Dave, and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. American Horror Story and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia have both been renewed for four more seasons.
