The creator of “Yellowstone,” Taylor Sheridan, is dishing out an all-new show on Paramount+.
“Mayor of Kingstown” will star Jeremy Renner, Dianne Wiest, Emma Laird, Derek Webster, Taylor Handley, Kyle Chandler, and Hugh Dillon. It peers into the life of the McLusky family. They happen to be a group of power brokers in Kingstown, Michigan, where the only industry is the business of incarceration.
Sneak Peek of ‘Mayor of Kingstown’
The new series will begin streaming episodes on November 14. It is executive produced by Taylor Sheridan, Hugh Dillon, Jeremy Renner, Antoine Fuqua, and several others. As the premiere date approaches quickly, Sheridan gave future viewers a look into the world of “Mayor of Kingstown.”
A new sneak peek gives fans a look into some of the characters and also gives commentary from some of the main cast members. The video starts out with Renner’s voice stating that there are seven prisons in the city within a 10-mile radius of each other. “Once you enter, you don’t leave. You stay there until you die,” says Emma Laird regarding the crime-ridden Kingstown.
The McLusky family works to keep the peace. They maintain relationships between the different factions in the city.
“We’re talking about people who are having to make decisions in very extreme circumstances. It’s a story about humanity,” Tobi Bamtefa said regarding this core group of individuals in the series.
From the looks of it, “Mayor of Kingstown” is going to balance drama, politics, social issues, and action-packed scenes all in one neatly wrapped production. The show will really delve into a system in the U.S. that needs some construction. It will also explore issues like corruption, inequality, and systematic racism.
“It’s a fascinating way to look at a really ineffective, broken system,” Taylor Sheridan said.
Trailer for Upcoming Series
Recently, a trailer was also released to give fans a look at what to expect from “Mayor of Kingstown.” There are high expectations, too. Renner is a two-time Oscar nominee and a massive Hollywood actor. In addition to this role, he’s going to be starring in his own highly anticipated “Hawkeye” series over on Disney+.
During the trailer, we get a look at Renner as Mike McLusky, as well as an idea of what kind of town we’re dealing with. “Wherever you’re from, you should go back. You won’t make it here,” he tells a runaway that has landed in the town.
Meanwhile, flashes of the prison system and disorder appear on the screen. Although Renner’s character is telling people to leave, he himself is fairly trapped. He has a conversation with his mother on the show, played by Dianne Wiest, in which she states, “You hate this town, and all you’ve done since you were a little boy is dream of leaving.” To which he simply responds, “I don’t know how to leave.”
When the series airs on November 14, we’ll get an even closer look at Mike McLusky and his complex role in this prison world.
