‘Mayor of Kingstown’ Star Jeremy Renner Calls the Show a ‘Ten Hour Movie’

The newest Paramout+ series, Mayor of Kingstown is set to premiere in just a few short days. And, as we all gear up for the new series, Jeremy Renner describes what it is about this new series that will draw viewers in from the very first episode.

“It’s all so character-based,” the Mayor of Kingstown star says in a recent interview. “There’s a lot of relationships that you follow.”

Jeremy Renner adds that Mayor of Kingstown is a unique series in the sense that the tense storylines, as well as the extremely complicated characters featured in the show.

In fact, Renner notes, each episode of the brand new Paramount+ series blend together as the darkly intriguing story evolves, giving the new series more of a cinematic vibe.

“You find you find that it doesn’t even become episodic television,” Renner explains of the new Paramount+ series. “It’s like a ten-hour movie”

‘Mayor of Kingstown’ Features A Complex Group of Characters

The Mayor of Kingstown tells the story of a prominent Michigan family living in the town of Kingstown. A town, showrunners say, where incarceration is “the only industry.”

The brand-new Paramout+ series stars Jeremy Renner as Mike McLusky, the mayor of the fictional town.

In the new series, Renner’s Mayor Mike McLusky and his family of mostly power brokers.

The McLusky family’s positions in the community suggest they work to keep the peace between local gangs while the prison system thrives.

However, the McLusky family is deeply involved in the crime that has taken over Kingstown. The family makes deals across the board. However, Mike is primarily the mastermind behind the entire operation.

“Because of all the relationships that are formed there’s a lot of tension,” the Avengers actor notes of the series’s deeply complex characters. “Even within the family.”

Mayor of Kingstown also stars Dianne Wiest as Mike’s mother; Kyle Chandler as the mayor’s brother; Emma Laird; and Hugh Dillon.

“Ultimately, he has a unique relationship with everybody in the prison system,” Jeremy Renner says of Mike McLusky. “and the workings of it.”

New Series Gives Us A Lot of Complex Storylines

Jeremy Renner adds that his character plays as a go-between when it comes to Kingstown’s incarceration system and other Kingstown businesses.

“Essentially, he’s like the grease for the wheels in general that is the business of incarceration,” the actor explains.

“There’s a lot of history a lot of depth and complexities,” Renner continues.

“A lot of lives are on the line,” the actor adds. “And the pendulum can swing at any given moment.”

Mayor of Kingstown premieres Sunday night on Paramount+.
