The brand new Paramount+ series Mayor of Kingstown is set in a tough and gritty town where the prison industry rules as the only thriving entity.
It is up to Kingstown’s mayor, Mike McLusky, to maintain a shaky balance between the leaders within this industry and the criminals. Both of them seem to have a run of the place in one way or another.
While doing this, Mike McLusky often comes face to face with some of the most hardened criminals. All while dealing with the town’s seedy underbelly.
Through his dealings with the criminals and the various corrupted officials, the mayor of Kingstown is quick to point out that he never breaks the law…he just “bends” it.
In a recent Tweet, the Paramount + network gave fans a sneak peek of what they can expect from the brand-new hit series as the first season continues.
And, it seems, the Mayor of Kingstown is in danger. Facing the bad side of one of the town’s most notorious bad guys.
“Be careful not to wake the beast,” the Paramount+ network tweets Sunday morning.
“New episode of Mayor of @Kingstown now streaming on #ParamountPlus,” the post continues.
In the Sunday morning Twitter post, the network includes a clip from the popular series starring Jeremy Renner as Mike McLusky, Kingstown’s current mayor.
The clip begins with Renner’s McLusky dealing with the aftermath of a shooting that has affected a variety of players within the system.
‘Mayor of Kingstown’ Continues To Shock Fans During Premiere Season
As the last episode came to a close, viewers saw Mike McLusky’s brother, Kyle (Taylor Handley) is involved in a shoot-out at a pizza place.
This occurs as he and Ian (Hugh Dillon) attempt to stop a robbery at the establishment. Before Kyle and Ian could take down the addict intent on robbing the joint, the owner of the pizza place decides to take matters into his own hands. The pizza place owner fires his own gun at the criminal.
Now, we see this has ended in a violent death which Mike McLusky must now address.
“They walked into a drug deal,” Renner’s character says in the Mayor of Kingstown clip.
“They find drugs on the victim?” someone asks.
“Not yet,” McLusky responds.
Next, we see that Iris is back, and it look like she is beginning to align herself with the Mayor of Kingstown, however, he has been shooting down her attempts to bribe him with certain favors since she arrived in town.
In the clip, Iris tells the club manager that she is “spoken for” by Mike McLusky. Of course, fans of the series know that this is entirely untrue. Where this storyline will lead is anyone’s guess at this point.
Then, the clip takes us to a moment between McLusky and one of his biggest informers within Kingstown, Bunny the leader of the Kingstown Crips.
“If they ain’t careful, they gonna wake the beast,” Bunny says in the sneak peek. This “beast,” however, wasn’t revealed in the Sunday morning clip.
Kingstown has already delivered during the show’s short run on air so far. So, Bunny’s warning could be referring to any of the many threats the Kingstown mayor is currently facing. All while he works to keep the peace as best he can.
