Meghan McCain Calls Out ABC After They Air Alec Baldwin Interview

Meghan McCain is speaking out following an Alec Baldwin interview that she deemed “tonally distasteful and “confusing.”

On December 1st, Alec Baldwin gave an exclusive interview to ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that detailed the accidental shooting on the set of Rust. The incident killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza.

During the conversation, Baldwin stated that he had “no idea” how a live bullet ended up his prop gun. And he promised that he would never intentionally point a live weapon at someone.

“Someone put a live bullet in a gun, a bullet that wasn’t even supposed to be on the property,” Baldwin claimed.

After watching the ABC exclusive, Meghan McCain wrote an op-ed slamming Stephanopoulos and the network for mishandling the interview.

In the piece, McCain admitted that she feels “bad” for Baldwin, who may face charges in the shooting.

“He seemed manic and anxious,” she wrote. “Giving confusing answers to simple questions and insisting he didn’t want to come off like a victim.”

Meghan McCain Accused Alec Baldwin of Being Insensitive

But the former The View host was put off by Baldwin’s words. She accused the actor of talking about himself “instead of focusing on the victim.”

And furthermore, Baldwin never once gave his input on ensuring “nothing like this ever happens again on any movie set.”

McCain continued by saying that an innocent woman and mother lost her life. And the accident was “Something that should have never, under any circumstances, have happened.”

“Ultimately, watching the interview made me uncomfortable. A woman lost her life a little over a month ago. And there is still an active investigation into how and why this could possibly happen. And Halyna Hutchins’ family is still grieving,” she concluded.  “I would say ABC should know better and do better. But that would have had to have started with Alec understanding respectful boundaries, something we all know he has never been good at.”

Then, McCain thanked her husband for sharing his life with her and giving her a beautiful daughter.

“Thank you for Liberty, your strength, bravery, humor, kindness, the life we’ve built together and always loving and supporting my fire.”
