“Little House on the Prairie” star Melissa Gilbert has shared her two cents on the viral “Target Challenge.” And rightly so, since it involves dresses very similar to the ones she wore while playing Laura Ingalls on the classic television show.
According to an article on BuzzFeed.com, this latest viral social media uproar has its roots in an Imgur post that was created in December. User BeExcellentToEachOther shared a photo of some pretty old-timey looking dresses at Target.
Accompanying the photo was the caption: “Target has decided if we’re gonna suffer a pandemic, we might as well look like we just lost the farm after locusts ate our crops.”
The dresses in the photo certainly look like something Melissa Gilbert would have worn on “Little House on the Prairie.” And, according to the article, social media users found inspiration in the photo and the attire of the show and decided to create their own old-timey photos. It also spawned the “Target Dress Challenge.”

Melissa Gilbert, Others Reflect on Their Time on Classic Television Show
Years and years after “Little House on the Prairie” ended its successful run on television, Melissa Gilbert said the very first episode of the show was the one she loved most. In addition, her co-star, Lindsay Greenbush, agreed.
“I love the pilot,” Gilbert said. “I think it’s probably one of the best made for TV movies in the history of television, I gotta agree with my baby sister over here.”
Other “Little House on the Prairie” cast members have said that different episodes were the ones they loved best. Hersha Paraday’s favorite episode was her last episode. Her character, Alice Garvey, perished in a fire in the episode “May We Make Them Proud.”
“My favorite scene and episode was my last one because I got to play in fire,” Paraday said. “And I was completely surrounded by the handsomest Los Angeles Fire Department. I liked it a lot.”
Also, Charlotte Stewart, who played Miss Beadle, liked the episode where her character got the children into trouble during a blizzard. According to Stewart, that episode was also one of the most difficult for her to film during her time on the show.
