Beloved actor Michael K. Williams‘ cause of death has been revealed, with the CME citing “acute intoxication” of numerous drugs in the icon’s system.
Rest in peace, Michael K Williams. In life, the actor, known the world over, suffered from tremendous demons. Now, per Deadline, the public has the full details on what led to the Emmy-nominated actor’s death.
“Michael K Williams died earlier this month from “acute intoxication by the combined effects of fentanyl, p-fluorofentanyl, heroin and cocaine,” Deadline tweets via the NYC Office of Chief Medical Examiner.
“Such a tragic loss. He is one of many hundreds of thousands to succumb to this bottomless crisis. I have three friends who have also died this way in the past two years,” replies follower Kalia.
“It is horrible but I’m also glad that he passed away instead of lying in a vegetative state for a long period of time. This cocktail was pretty hardcore,” replies Michael K Williams fan ‘CurlGyrl10’.
The 5-time-Emmy-nominated actor of 12 Years a Slave, Boardwalk Empire, Lovecraft Country, and The Wire fame was found dead in his Brooklyn home on September 6, 2021. The Bronx native was 54-years-old.
At the time, a New York Police Department detective would also tell Deadline that Williams “was discovered deceased in an apartment located at 440 Kent Avenue today around 1400 hours. It’s an ongoing investigation and the medical examiner will determine the cause of death.”
Michael K Williams: Wildly Remarkable Talent
“You’ll be missed, brother. A real pleasure to work with you and call you a friend. Strength, mana & love to your family during this very difficult and heartbreaking time. Go rest high,” Dwayne Johnson wrote of Willams at the time of his death.
The sentiment would be echoed a million times over, with actors from across the world paying their respects to the icon. No one did it like Michael K Williams, after all. His combination of charisma and intensity were unmatched.
“I feel punched in gut to learn we’ve lost Michael K Williams. Soul anguished,” tweeted co-star Edward Norton. “Getting to work with him was one of the greatest privileges I’ve had in my career. My admiration for his talent was boundless, like so many. If he was in a scene he was the best thing about it. Period.”
“We lost one of my all-time favorite actors. I’m gutted. Rest in peace, Michael. I’ll forever be in awe of your talent,” offered Yellowstone star Hassie Harrison, one of millions also inspired by the late actor.
But no Hollywood devastation will ever match that of Michael K Williams’ family.
“My uncle was loving,” said Michael’s nephew, Booker T. Williams. “My family loved him. He loved our family. He loved our community, and he did everything in his power to show love.”
Tragically, Booker would be the one to discover his uncle’s body at his Brooklyn home.
“I was going to just touch base with him, come over to the house and cook. Sit down eat with him. And this happened. It’s not even real. I can’t even process it yet. I don’t even believe it.”
Williams’ legacy, however, will thankfully live on through his remarkable body of work.
