Michael K. Williams’ Death Reportedly Now a Criminal Investigation

New information indicates that actor Michael K. Williams’ tragic death has spurred a criminal investigation, according to TMZ.

The 54-year-old was found dead in his Brooklyn apartment, reportedly by his nephew, Booker T. Williams. An official cause of death hasn’t been determined, but officials found drug paraphernalia in the apartment. Law enforcement sources told People they believe he consumed heroin laced with fentanyl.

Now, TMZ reports that the circumstances of Michael K. Williams’ death have spurred a criminal investigation. NYPD detectives want to look “into the origin of the narcotics” found at the scene. They apparently want to locate the alleged drug dealer, though NYPD hasn’t confirmed this information yet.

We’ll have to wait a while for the official autopsy to come through on Williams’ cause of death. In the meantime, several stars and fans have mourned the actor’s untimely passing. PopCulture reports that his representative broke the news via a statement on Monday.

“It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Emmy-nominated actor Michael Kenneth Williams. They ask for your privacy while grieving this unsurmountable loss,” the statement read.

Michael K. Williams’ Family Mourns the ‘Sweetheart’ Actor

Booker T. Williams, who discovered his uncle’s body in the apartment, talked to The New York Post about Michael K. Williams’ legacy.

“My uncle was loving. My family loved him. He loved our family. He loved our community, and he did everything in his power to show love,” Booker T. Williams said.

Another nephew, Arvance Williams, also opened up to The Post about his uncle’s “heartbreaking” death.

“I still can’t wrap my head around it,’’ Arvance said. “I was just with him, I just bought him some fabric so he can go to the Emmys, to put under his blazer.” Michael K Williams was recently nominated for his role in HBO’s “Lovecraft Country.”

“He just got nominated for an Emmy, and he was going to LA, so he was real excited about that,” Arvance continued. “You guys know him as the actor, we know him as Uncle Mike. We love him.”

Arvance talked about how his uncle was “sweet,” and very unlike the “mean and gangster” characters he played.

“I’m like, ‘This guy is a really good actor.’ Because if you knew Mike, he was a sweetheart. … A very gentle, gentle person. And I just look at some of the stuff he doing and I would just laugh ‘cuz that’s totally not him.’’

Apparently, the family was supposed to spend Labor Day Weekend together in Pennsylvania, but the trip was canceled.

“I was going to just touch base with him, come over to the house, and cook. Sit down eat with him,” Arvance said. “And this happened. It’s not even real. I can’t even process it yet. I don’t even believe it.’’
