Michael Strahan Speaks Out About Father’s Death

Television host and former NFL defensive end, Michael Strahan, opens up about his father, Gene’s death.

Earlier this month, Gene William Strahan Sr. died at the age of 83. The cause of death has not been released yet. Furthermore, his funeral was on September 4.

Michael and his father were very close, so the passing has taken a toll. He says he is still in shock a week later.

“It’s been a little over a week since I lost my hero, and it’s still hard to believe my dad is no longer with us physically,” Strahan said. “I know his spirit lives on thru me and the rest of the family.”

The NFL Hall of Famer admits that his goal was to make Gene proud through everything he has accomplished in his life.

“Knowing that I did that gives me peace but also pushes me to continue because I know he’s watching from above.”

He also credits the man he is today, both personally and professionally, to his father.

“Without him, I’m not sure where I’d be, but I know I wouldn’t have anything close to the life I have now. Love you, Dad, and I’m honored to be your son.”

Concluding, Strahan gave advice to his many fans.

“Take time to hug your parents, spouse, and kids. Let them know how you feel and don’t take it for granted that they automatically know that you love them.”
