Mike Rowe Speaks on Why He Named His New Tennessee Whiskey After His Grandfather

Mike Rowe might be one of the busiest guys in the entertainment industry. He likes it that way, though. After all, celebrating hard work and a healthy work ethic is at the center of his brand. So, it comes as no surprise that Rowe is a hard-working man himself. His new show, How America Works premiers tonight at 8 Eastern on Fox Business Network. He’ll narrate as well as executive produce the show. That’s on top of hosting Dirty Jobs and running his foundation that supports skilled tradesmen. Now, Rowe is going to start selling whiskey. It seems like “rest” is a four-letter word for Mike and we wouldn’t want him any other way.

Mike Rowe took to Instagram last night to answer a series of questions from a fan named Thom Wilkes. Among his many questions, Thom wanted to know “What’s up with the new whiskey? How can I get some?” Rowe answered those and several other questions in a long and detailed post.

“As for the hooch, it’s a Tennessee Whiskey, nearly five years in the barrel and very tasty.” Honestly, that would have been enough to sell most people on trying a glass or two. However, he went on to say where he got the name for the liquor and it got more appealing. “I named it in honor of my grandfather, the late, great Carl Knobel.” It wasn’t just a family bond that made him choose that name, though. Rowe said his grandfather’s, “incomparable work ethic inspired both Dirty Jobs and the mikeroweWORKS Foundation.” Furthermore, his grandfather’s last name, Knobel, died when he did. So, Rowe is resurrecting the name with Knobel whiskey.

More About Mike Rowe’s New Whiskey

In the post, Mike Rowe said that he got the first case of his new whiskey on Saturday. Instead of celebrating by cracking a bottle for himself, he decided to get some experts’ opinions. So, he took a few bottles of Knobel to Baltimore to let his pals in the restaurant business try some of it. “Happily, they gave it five stars,” Rowe said. He added that his whiskey is very limited and the net proceeds will go straight to the mikeroweWORKS Foundation.

So, getting your hands on a bottle of Knobel won’t be easy. However, Mike Rowe did say that he found a way to put a few bottles in the hands of his fans. “With Dirty Jobs returning, I thought it would be fun to do something in honor of my Pop… We’ll have a gift pack for the holiday with a signed bottle of Knobel and other goodies.”

If you want to get your hands on one of Mike Rowe’s holiday gift baskets, go to his website and sign up for the mailing list. Don’t delay, though. Rowe said, “It’ll be first come first served, and they’re gonna go fast.”
