Singer and star Miley Cyrus just announced she’ll be on Saturday Night Live alongside Elon Musk on May 8.

The news comes as SNL continues to announce its final guests for its 46th season. Elon Musk will host while Miley Cyrus will be the musical guest and perhaps act in a few sketches.

Most of the Twitter replies are excited to see Miley, while others debate the ever-controversial Elon Musk’s appearance on the show. A lot of fans also want Miley Cyrus to sing her own work instead of the cover songs she’s been performing recently.

“Pls sing your own songs!!” One Twitter user said, while another had specific requests, “We want ‘angels like you’ and ‘without you remix!'”

Some fans are even hoping that Cyrus will use SNL to debut new music, though she released her new album quite recently.

Elon Musk to Host

Elon Musk, meanwhile, will be taking up the hosting position for the first time. The SpaceX and Tesla CEO is a rare but not unprecedented example of a business mogul hosting the show. One of the last times this occurred was thirty years ago when George Steinbrenner, owner of the New York Yankees and head of NBC, hosted for a night.

Musk has big plans for SpaceX, wanting to pioneer a “space tourism industry.” He also recently had a child with his partner, Grimes. Grimes is a singer, songwriter, and music producer. The two notoriously named their child X Æ A-Xii. Musk also is a very active Twitter user, often talking about “dogecoin,” a popular cryptocurrency.

What will Miley Cyrus Sing?

While it’s clear fans don’t want Miley Cyrus to do more covers, it’s up in the air whether or not she’ll sing her own work or not. Her newest album, Plastic Hearts, was released in November 2020. It’s the singer’s 7th studio album. However, Cyrus has been performing a lot of covers recently.

Miley Cyrus has never been afraid to play with genre. And Plastic Hearts is no exception. The album’s sound is heavily influenced by rock, synth-pop, and glam rock genres. It debuted as #2 on the Billboard 200. She could easily sing some of her most popular songs off that album on SNL.

Fans particularly want her to sing “Midnight Sky,” “Angels Like You,” or “Prisoner.”

Since there are two musical performances in each SNL episode, Cyrus could also sing one song from her album, and do one cover. Who knows, maybe hopeful fans are right and she’ll debut something new. Whatever the singer chooses, her powerful, raspy vocals will be a treat to listen to for many viewers.

While waiting for what’s sure to be a very talked-about episode, you can enjoy SNL tonight, April 24th, on NBC. While no new episode is coming out, they’ll be airing one of their many re-runs.
