Molly Ringwald Announces the Passing of Her Father, Bob, at 80

by Quentin Blount

Jass pianist Robert “Bob” Ringwald has passed away at 80-years-old, according to his daughter, actress and author Molly Ringwald.

The obituary that Molly Ringwald wrote for her beloved dad was published on Saturday in The Sacramento Bee.

“Anyone who knew Bob also knew his mischievous streak and his ever-present, slightly ribald sense of humor. If you didn’t sufficiently beg to get off of his email joke list, you would have received one just a couple of days before he died,” she wrote.

Bob Ringwald was born in 1940 in Roseville, California. And if you are a fan of his music, you probably know that he had become legally blind at a very young age. Despite such a major obstacle, he pressed forward. According to his daughter Molly, he did not want his blindess to control the narrative of his life.

“Though he never wanted to be defined by his blindness, he couldn’t help being an ambassador for changing the perception of what is possible to do while living with a disability,” she continued. “His dignity, humor, strength of character, and courage will always be remembered and cherished by everyone whose lives were touched by his.”

In addition to writing out the heartfelt obituary for her late father, Molly Ringwald also made a touching tribute to him on social media.

“It’s with a heavy heart that my family says goodbye to my father,” Ringwald also wrote on Instagram alongside a photo with her father. “I consider myself very lucky to have had in my life as long as I did. Robert Scott Ringwald 1940-2021.”

Late Father of Molly Ringwald Had the Perfect Life Philosphy

It’s only fitting that a talented musician like Bob Ringwald could find a life philosophy in a song. His daughter Molly Ringwald explained as much in his obituary.

“A lyric to the song ‘Old Bones,’ which he performed often in his later years, summed up his philosophy around a full life well-lived. ‘I love life, I’d like to live it again, just to have the chance to turn back the hands. And let my life begin. Oh yeah, I’d like to do it again.'”

As of this time, there has been no listed cause of death. Meanwhile, Bob Ringwald is survived by several of his family members. These include his wife of 60 years, Adele; his sister, Renee Angus; daughters Molly Ringwald and Beth Ringwald Carnes; son Kelly Ringwald; and four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, a great-grandson, and also one step-great-grandson.

If you would like to send flowers to the family, they have asked that you instead make a contribution to the Foundation Fighting Blindness or to CURE Childhood Cancer.
