The popular series “Mom” finally came to an end on Thursday (May 13). But one of its series leads was absent from the occasion. Fans were disappointed that Anna Faris’ Christy didn’t make a surprise appearance in the finale.

Faris, of course, was one of the series leads before she left the show in Season 7. “Mom” focused on her dysfunctional relationship with Allison Janney’s Bonnie. Fans wondered why Christy didn’t show up to see the show off. Well, “Mom” co-creator Gemma Baker addressed Faris’ absence in an interview with TV Line.

The co-creator remained somewhat cryptic beside wanting to honor Faris’ decision to leave “Mom.”

“We felt that it was important to honor [Faris’] decision to leave the show. The audience knows that Christy traveled a great distance over seven seasons and overcame so many obstacles in order to follow her dream of becoming a lawyer, and it felt like that story had been addressed in a satisfying way, so we didn’t revisit it for the finale,” she said.

Although Christy didn’t appear in the episode, she was mentioned in the finale. Baker said the comment should infer that Christy and her mother are on good terms.

“The way she was mentioned casually indicates that Bonnie and Christy are very much still in contact, and that that relationship has really healed,” she said.

Anna Faris Left ‘Mom’

Anna Faris shocked fans of the sitcom last year when she announced she was leaving. In a statement, she said, “The past seven years on ‘Mom’ have been some of the most fulfilling and rewarding of my career.”

After Faris decided to leave, the show returned without her character. Instead, most of the storylines shifted solely to Allison Janney’s Bonnie. Christy was written off the show as going to law school instead. The last season focused on Janney’s character learning to live on her own again. But the show didn’t last without Faris’ presence. For many, it just wasn’t the same.

Co-creator Chuck Lorre wrote, “For one hundred and seventy episodes, we wrapped jokes around hope. On behalf of everyone involved in the making of ‘Mom,’ thank you for watching.”

But Janney admitted she felt disappointed that the show was ending. She thought it would go past Season Eight.

“I wish that we’d had at least another year for the writers to have that much time to ramp up to the ending,” she confessed. “We sort of found out sooner than we thought we would. We thought, ‘Surely, they’re going to want more ‘Mom.’ And they decided not.”
