Dan + Shay did not disappoint as the only country group to perform at the 2020 American Music Awards.

The Performance From Dan + Shay

The duo took the AMAs stage on Sunday, Nov. 22, to perform their hit “I Should Probably Go To Bed.” The duo performed in the middle of Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater on a circular stage. Dan Smyers played piano and sang backup vocals while Shay Mooney sang to the camera while it circled 360 degrees around him. Behind the duo, a silhouette string section performed on a larger-than-life screen.

Although there are several country categories, Smyers and Mooney were the only country group to perform at this year’s awards show. Hours before the show kicked off, Darius Rucker announced that he will be performing a duet with Katy Perry. The unlikely pair performed “One Love” acoustically. Rucker was the only other country artist that performed during the 2020 AMAs.

This isn’t the first time that Dan + Shay performed at an awards show amid the global pandemic. The trio recently performed “10,000 Hours” at the  2020 CMA Awards with collaborator Justin Bieber. They performed at the iconic Hollywood Bowl without an audience due to health and safety guidelines. Their debut performance quickly went viral.

About the 2020 AMAs

The country duo is up for three awards tonight. The pair are nominated in one of the all-genre categories for Collaboration of the Year with Justin Bieber for “10,000 Hours.” They are also nominated for Favorite Country Duo. Finally, they won Group and Favorite Country Song for “10,000 Hours.” The duo accepted the honor while Bieber just got off stage from his medley performance.

The 2020 American Music Awards were held on Sunday, Nov. 22, and aired live on ABC with actress Taraji P. Henson as host.
