The Male Vocalist of the Year at the 2021 CMA Awards is Chris Stapleton!

On Wednesday (November 10), Stapleton won his fifth Male Vocalist of the Year award. He first won the award back in 2015 followed by 2016, 2017, and 2018.

This was a massive night for Stapleton who also took home the Album of the Year honor for Starting Over. The title track also won for both Song of the Year and Single of the Year. What an incredible night for Chris Stapleton! He was also nominated for Entertainer of the Year which Luke Combs ended up taking home. The country crooner received producer credits in both the Album of the Year and Single of the Year categories.

“I want to say thank you to everybody that listened to the record, everybody that listens to music — country music fans,” he said during his Album of the Year acceptance speech. “It’s always an honor to receive the album award. We believe in albums, and we like what that is.”

Dierks Bentley, Eric Church, Luke Combs, and Thomas Rhett were also nominated in this category. All of this year’s nominees in the category performed during the awards ceremony.

Earlier in the telecast, Chris Stapleton performed “Night Life” and “You Are My Sunshine” with Jennifer Hudson. Fans were blown away by the unlikely collaboration which earned a standing ovation from the majority of artists in the audience.

During the awards show, Thomas Rhett shouted out his fellow Entertainer of the Year nominee. In the title track and hit song “Country Again,” he references Eric Church. He sings in the tune, “But last night we cracked some cold beers / And cranked Eric Church to ten / Thought, “Man, it feels good to be country again.”

“I can’t wait to point right at Eric Church when I drop his line in the song,” he said. “Hopefully, he gives me a thumbs up. I’m just really excited about it.”

Luke Combs spoke about just being nominated in such a prestigious category during rehearsals.

“Being nominated for Entertainer of the Year I mean anytime is, you know, unbelievable and something you never think would ever happen and yet here you are,” Combs said in an interview.

“It’s the top award in our, in our business and our genre you know,” he added. “So I think you know everybody that gets nominated wants to win I know I would love to win at some point and if that’s this year, five years from now and I know but just being nominated is awesome and something that I definitely don’t take for granted.”
